Hello,

I purchased a few USB soundcards to record with and tried to use them on my laptop. The sound device menu froze before I could even change the levels. And when it did work with just a few of the cards, the levels tab was blank. Also I noticed the USB device was listed as speakers and was also assigned as default communications device when I wanted neither! I simply wanted to use it as a mic.

I tried it on a different laptop and it all seems to work fine, levels and correctly listed information, with most of the cards except that with the mic (that I am positive is working alright.) the recording is blank. Nothing is picked up. It only gets some spikes on a recorded track when the USB stick is moved around in the port...

I find this all very strange.

Please shead some light.

Cheers

a few usb cards ??? conflict in software/drivers maybe ?

what operating system are you on? are you on bindows for that matter ...

i`d remove every trace of software/drivers get a clean operating system then make an image of the drive (if its not huge, but you wouldn't install all your libraries and valuable data to a huge vulnerable c: drive would you?)

then try installing one of the cards again,if it fails you have the nice clean backup that would only take 10 minutes to re-install :) ...

usb conflicts are common, mice keyboards phones dongles hubs e.t.c don't all get along with each other ... try different ports and stick to them

We're not psychic, we don't know what you tried (gamer cards???) or what your hardware or OS is.

Kinda like saying "I put some stuff in my car and now it won't go 90mph. Tell me exactly what I did wrong..."

Yes, list the actual devices, microphone, your computer info and what DAW you are using, if you expect assistance.
