Mixing and Mastering.
Anyone know of any good quality mixing desks that have 16 nice preamps and have usb or firewire capabilites for homestudio setup?
I am on a limited budget and can only really spend £500 ($945) to maybe £1000 ($1890).
I would like maybe an Allen and Heath or a Spirit but would settle for a Mackie if i had to. Just really looking for 2 key elements:

16 nice preamps
USB or firewire to connect to computer.

No fancy effects or anything really needed.

A Tascam DM-24 with the optional firewire card fits that description really well.
The DM-24 @ zzounds is $1999.95. The 'optional firewire card' is $399.95. Total - $2399.90 which is out of the stated price range by more than $500.

These mixers with computer interfaces (at the HR price end of the market anyway) are relatively new on the market. The only other one that I know of is the Mackie Onyx and it can be had for well within your $ limits. I don't know why it seems like 'settling' because it's gotten very good reviews and the one time I used one it impressed me as both very good sounding and solidly built. Allen+Heath and Soundcraft/Spirit may be planning such products but neither has released anything that I know of.
