recording drum tracks...I know about soundcards the 8 in/out to record 8 individual tracks for a kit.... is there a way to do the same thing via usb interface console
I was looking at a few usb interface mixing consoles but it seems most one can record one track at a time unless im missing something

Most USB mixers can provide a stereo output, so you can pan one track to the left and one to the right and record 2 separate tracks.
Look at the Allen & Heath Z series for more ability. OR better yet - use a dedicated audio interface for recording and a mixer for live work. :thumbs up:

What type of computer are you using? Do you have to go USB? Is it a laptop or desktop.

I just spent the last two years building a 24 track digital studio and can fill you in on the trials and tribulations of compatibility and processing power.

In general, almost all usb mixers are a 2x2 interface (1 stereo channel in, 1 stereo channel out - in case you were going to ask.

If you have adat capability I would recommend the Allen and Heath Zed16. It will allow you record all sixteen tracks to individual tracks in your DAW.

If you have firewire I would recommend the Saffire Pro 40l. It has 8 mic inputs and totals up to 20 including the digital ins. It can record up to 18 simultaneously over the firewire. This unit has some of the best routing options and monitoring that I have seen in over 15 years of recording.

If you MUST have USB connectivity, I would recommend the Prosonus Audiobox 1818vsl. It can record up to 20 channels simultaneously (when including digital inputs). It is USB 2.0 and has awesome routing options and a virtual mixer that you can use to control FOH sound from the stage.

Both of the above units range in price from 300-500 canadian dollars.

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.

so is there a usb interface concole that would allow me to record at least 8 tracks at one time into my DAW? Or would I have to record the drums on another mixer get the levels right then mix down to L/R stereo track

This,

Product: US-1800 | TASCAM
Has garnered a good rep.

Dave.

Ok Dave, You can take over the checks I used to receive from Tascam, for promoting the US1800. They were payed quarterly, in the amount of $0.00 per promotion.lol

I would consider the Tascam US 1800, the absolute best 'entry level+' interface, for anyone that needs to record 10 tracks to DAW, right out of the box. Absolute best choice for someone looking to record drums, at a moderate level of quality. I only sold mine, because it was just time to upgrade to the next level. I still have about $600,000 to move to the third level. :) Experience will yield more results, than any gear will give in sound quality. The 1800 is a strong starting point.
