USB contoller and computer for piano?

My question is, I'm trying to find the cheapest solution for a practice piano for a friend of mine. She has a brand new Mac, and I was thinking if I got her a USB 88 key controller, she should be able to get some sort of freeware that would play the piano sounds thru her Mac without much complication. Really looking for a "plug and play" set up here.

Would this work?
