USB audio interfaces vs. vista

Era Escape
So after doing a little research, I think software isn't the problem. There seems to be a wide variety out there that runs on vista: cubase 4 studio w/student discount is affordable to me, plus there's sequel and reaper. But my problem now is with audio interfaces. First I bought a tascam US-122 off of ebay thinking I'd gotten a deal, but its drivers didn't work with vista. Then I ordered a behringer UCA202 because it was so cheap and didn't require drivers, but had a lot of problems. First it wasn't recognized, then I installed asio4all, and kind of worked, except for an intermittent clicking sound every 3/4 of a second or so.

Now I'm looking around at newer interfaces looking in particular for vista compatible ones. M-audio seems to have released vista drivers for some of their products (fastrak, mobilepre). Tascam also says the US-122L is vista compatible. I've already purchased two products that haven't worked, so I don't want to rush into buying a third without knowing for sure that it can get the job done. My budget is less than $200, and I'm running vista home premium on an hp laptop with an athlon turion x2 processor. I'm kicking myself for not buying a mac right now, but it's too late for that.

Also: any opinions on one brand or model versus another? I'm just doing some demos right now, and have some self-taught recording experience (recorded an ep with a friend: http://www.myspace.com/eraescape )

Vista IS the problem. It's unstable, many, many drivers aren't included and many more will NOT be given approval.
It's to hungry in terms of RAM and processor & it's developing a mind of its own.
It's not the PC's prob & OSX had it's own serious compatibility probs with macs.
Strip the OS from your comp. & install XP OR if you're using it purely for recording 2000ME the former is becoming quite stable & the latter is very stable.
STOP throwing good money after bad - reflect on what you've done thus far, the common threads, brands, versions and manufacturers.
What is the commonality? VISTA!
Your songs sound promising - the guitars are too fizzy though - modeller or in the box effects?

Hewy I was (and still do sometimes) the UCA 202. I got the clicking problem also. I plugged it into a hub instead of straight to a usb slot and it stopped. Your milage may vary. This was with XP and not VIsta though.
