US-428 and Windows XP???

Hello everyone! I've had a US-428 which was working perfectly under Windows 98SE. No problems there. I went to upgrade to Windows XP and that's where the problems started. The system is extremely unstable after I install the US-428. I even tried getting the newest drivers installed to no avail. With any sound playing through the 428, when I open anything more stressful than a program like Notepad, the system instantly and unexpectedly reboots. No shutdown screen, no warning - Just goes to a black screen and reboots. I turned logging on and no particular file is listed as causing the problem. I am running an SIS chipset motherboard (PC Chips) with an Intel Pentium III / 866 with 256K of RAM. Hard drive is 40 Gigs with 30 Gigs available. I have done all the suggested tweaks and turned off all non-essential services and programs. Still getting the same problem. Any idea what could be the problem? Could it be that I should install SP-1? Has anybody out there experienced similar problems?

I'm using a us-428 on my windows XP computer as well, and while i've had many problems with it initially, it is finally working correctly.

I am not exactly sure what is wrong with yours, because it sounds very odd. I'd advice you to grab some more ram, its honestly not that expensive anymore, and will make a huge difference. However, my biggest suggestion would be to upgrade to Service Pack 1. There are some serious audio latency issues in XP before service pack 1, and installing it fixed many of my problems.

Thanks for the input Jeff! I have upped the RAM to 512 but have gone back to Win98SE. Seems to make a HUGE difference in how smooth things run and everythings much faster now. I'm thinking of upping to 1Meg (1024K) of RAM. I'll try SP1. Any news on SP2???

you need to install SP-1.

there is a known USB bug in WinXP. i had major problems on playback until i installed SP-1.
