Saved money and buyed 2nd hand US-1800. Can't register Cubase ("is allready registered"). Even after 2 days digging/testing with setups of Cubase and Vista, have drop-outs when using my wives eMacines E725 laptop (dual core 2GHz, 3GB, 60GB SSD, Vista 32bit). Seems to work fine with my desktop W7 64bit, Pentium dual core 3.2GHz, 8GB RAM available, 128GB SSD.

Drop-outs:
Vista in laptop is tuned for max performance (max performance in power management, programs get most processor time, new display driver and display is adjusted for max. speed, malware scan, startup processes checked, virtual mem disabled).
US-1800: max latency, dualcore, 44.1kHz, 16bit, 25 frames. After a few day fiddling around i know how to set it up from scrach.
With latency@normal MORE frequent (a few times/minute) messages "Processor overload, detected missing audio" than with latency@max (only once every 2-4 minutes). Still unacceptable. So i presume more buffersize is needed. Latency is for live recording no problem. Tried ASIO4ALL. Only two inputs, didnt work.

Who:
- nows how to make buffers in US-1880 bigger than the max possible in the US-1880 SW?
or
- has other solution?
- knows how to UNregister Cubase and REregister it on my name? (have original dataDVD).
I did send the problem to Cubase, no answer yet.
- knows if Cubase can run on my desktop AND laptop on one registering?

I edit audio with CEP2. Old, but i can play with it and it is good.

Nico (Netherlands).

e-Machines are not very good computers .... I woudl guess that the 2G RAM you have is just not enough - have you disabled any programs running in the background?

RAM is 3G. I inspected what SW was started at starting time of Windows. I deared not to disable misc. eMacine software, as this can cause malfunctioning.

I could think about upgrading to 4G ram. It should be fully available in Vista 32 bit, as i disabled the swapfile. Maybe that extra 1G could help.

At the moment i try "Record" DAW SW to work with US-1880. I can get it for my birthday (march 29) from my son who only needed the Dongle from it in order to purchase some other SW.

The original US-1800 driver stops working after 20s. I did see that the buffer size was only a small number of samples and could not be changed. "Record" states they can make this much larger.
I now try if "general low latency ASIO driver" works with "Record". It has somewhat larger buffer (non adjustable). May just be good enough.

TNX for reply.

Extra installed RAM (total 4G) does not help.
Shutdown all anti virus / firewall does not help.
Shutdown of 8 startup programs does not help.
Upgrading processor impossible.
Upgrading to 64bit to costly.

I asked TASCAM for help. If possible a new driver version with the possibility to adjust for higher latency than present maximum.

At the moment after about 1 minute recording a message, and on that position in the WAV file a hickup is heared.

Nico.

Maybe the problem is your unregistered version of Cubase ... You should be able to adjust buffer size in it.

I found instructions for the seller how to unregister his code. Then i can register.
-----------
I can adjust latency, but the max. lantency is still NOT long enough for my laptop.
I tried every possible action, software and hardware. It does not enough. So the only possibility is a LONGER latency, becouse shorter latency shortens period of re-warning/hickup.
In other driverSW (not usable becouse only stereo, not multi channel) the latency could be adjusted up to 2024 samples. In "Record" DAW software the US-1800 driver does not work.
In my situation of up to 1.5 hrs continues live recording with up to 8 - 10 mikes, latency does not matter. As lomg as i can check all channels have audio, and i know there will be NO dropouts (causing unusable sound and/or running out of sync with sometimes parallel running, not interconnected amateur camaras).

I did post the problem to TASCAM.
In my working period, i also did program software (database for highscool). In my opinion it is no big deal to change the adjustments of latency in US-1800 driver software.

But not hindered by knowledge, everything is easy.

Registering succesfull:
i did register Cubase at last, using an other mailadres, which first was tested for forwarding to me.
I do not know what the reason was that the first attempt did not succeed, but can gess what the problem at the second attempt was: I had made a Gmail account, and then made an account at Steinberg. The mailaccount at Gmail was not ready to receive mail, as i did get a "ready" mail from Gmail only the next day.
The immediately send confirmation mail from Steinberg to Gmail immediately then bounced i think. Greetings, Nico.

Ok, so you are asking how to increase your buffer size/latency farther than the 1800 will let you? That is a limitation of your computer, not the interface.

You are asking the wrong question for the wanted performance. It is your OS, hard drive, processor, and RAM, and how you delegate the usage of files, that determines what you can get away with, as far as latency.

Look at upgrading your computer man.

Sorry, and greetings back. :)
