im using the tascam us-122 and i plug my guitar chord directly into the line/guitar in L but i cant get it to play in a cubase track...can this not be done, do i have to mic an amp or am i just doing something wrong?

Can you see the recording on the track but are just unable to hear it on playback? Have you got the switch on the US-122 in the 'guitar' position rather than the 'mic/line' position? Have you got the preamp turned up to 3 O'clock?

Another possible reason may be due to the settings in Cubase - depending on which version you're using. In Cubase SX, you need to go into VST devices set up and select the us-122... this may also be the case in other versions.
Good luck!

You'll want to make sure it's monitoring through the track if you want it to play back realtime. I forget how it works in Cubase 5 VST/32, but in SX (1 at least, haven't used the newer versions) there's the monitoryness button under the record enable button, and if you select that, then you can play through the track with effects and amp sim (if you have any amp sim plugins) and whatnot. Dunno if this is what you need, but if it helps, then all is right in the world.
