Yeah 1970s comp sounds warmer. The 1980s comp brings out a sublte high end that I amnt sure of.

API graphic EQ

...i used this a little while back on the guitars for a punk track, and it gave me exactly the sound i was looking for

there are two versions. if i need more control, i use the "mix" versions. i currently own the api and the neve. love em both..

I don't think the mix versions sound as good as the fixed frequency selectable versions. Anyone else agree?

I also think the graphic eq's sound the best overall. Anyone else have comments on the differences they hear?

i like these eqs, don't know about the compressors,
they got good control, decent sound and don't suck my cpu empty!

You won't regret it. I don't care for the URS comps from what I tried either, although testing wasn't extensive. I like stuff that is easy to work with and gets results right away. If it can sound okay but it takes forever to get the right setting, than I'd rather use something where I get the result I want right away before my brain goes numb from A/B'ing the same thing over and over again.

Yeah plug-ins have to be easy to use for me, I suppose im a bit lazy.
Im just so used to the rapidness of using REQ compared to say URS API Mix EQ.

I like the non mix eq's because they are much faster than a parametric. You don't have to F around with bandwidth at all, and frequency it's like "300 isn't working, 500....yeah that's it, let's try 700 just to make sure.....nope, 500 it is". It doesn't work when you need to get surgical, or once in awhile you can tell that the frequency you want is in between 2 of the set frequencies, but most of the time it seems to work for me.
