Urgent Power Conditioner Sugestions....

Hey guys....I need sugestions for an affordable power conditioner (I think that's the term) as the power supply for my Soundtracs Solitaire seems touchy at the idea of poer surges and spikes....I was told that the ART 4x4 was not the thing for me, but what is...I need the name and model please, so I can google.com.au it and see where to buy in Australia....Cheers!

Is that Furman a true conditioner? Most of theirs are the same as power strips just rack mountable.

There are a couple good threads in the Studio Building forum with more info then you will ever want to know about conditioners. Mixmker started one up a few months back.

I have a unit by Topaz and they generally make good units. Expect to pay around $100 (new) for 500watts of true conditioning.
 
Btw, John Sayers said he was experiencing some severe electrical storms and golf ball size hail. I think he's outside of Melbourne. Does your urgency have anything to do with this?

Yes, Tex, that is a true power conditioner, although it is not quite a voltage regulator, 2 slightly different animals. The RP-8, that's just a power strip.-Richie
 
Ok....Thanks for all your help guys....As it turns out, it was fitted with the wrong fuse and I replaced with the same hence why it was always blowing.....I got the right one and now all's cool (touch wood) I think I'll invest in a couple anyway as a safety.....

So, ok, out of all that're sugested, which would you all consider the better bet (I'm tippin' Furman here)....
 
These Furman type units tend to be big on surface and little on substance. They give you fancy lights and flashing LEDs, but not much in the way of true power conditioning. The transformer isolated units like the Topaz that Tex mentioned are the very best way to go.... but rather expensive per Watt. Short of that, you want a high quality multi-stage filter. And in this case I really do like the DIY method I suggested. This way you're just buying the guts and not the glitz. And you can be sure you're getting a high quality filter instead of a cheap power strip in a fancy box.

You can get some great used deals on Ebay and at electronics surplus stores. I was at an amp repair place and scored a 1500W Topaz for $100. It can handle my entire recording rig and two tube amps all at once.
