If you're having problems uploading your song then just please mail it to Ed. This is really turning into a learning process, eh? We'll come up with a much better plan next time :)

You don't have to mail anything priority either. Just try to send it by the 31st! I plan to mail mine at 11:59PM tomorrow night...it's just like paying taxes! :)

Thanks to those who have sent me links to their "all about me" information. Looking good so far. Everyone else, please remember to get me something or there'll be a sad little void where your smiling studio should be!

***Some notes on uploading to ammeth****

a) You MUST connect to 24.30.158.170 at PORT 2496. If you leave out the port you'll be rejected.

b) user name and password are probably case sensitive.

c) You must upload to the UPLOAD folder. Type "cd upload".

d) It's not always necessary but it's advisable that you manually set the transfer mode to binary (type I). Type "bin".

I had some really cool software almost ready for you guys that made this whole process SO easy. You give it a file and it finds an FTP server (user configurable), sends your song, tells you jokes, shows you my butt, and automatically emails me and the FTP host that you submitted, what you submitted, the length, etc. But god damnit I didn't have time to finish it...it was SOOO easy too I could just kick myself. I did 70% of it during a boring afternoon at work....ammeth saw some automatic uploads to his site that day...and then I never could get around to finishing that last 30%. Another reason to be disappointed in myself. I'm such a loser.
Welp, back to work.

(feel sorry for me yet? I'm a whiner, love me. Suckers.)

there seems to have been some problems uploding to my ftp, I cant figure it out. I just tried it out and everything was working ok. so here's another option.

If your assed out and cant get it in the snail mail to ed, you could email it to me as an attachment OR (better option) upload it to one of many freespace websites.
www.xdrive.com www.i-drive.com www.juston.com
etc...

if you do this, tell me about it so I can download it and burn it to disk for ed.

I uploaded to your site last night whilst I was sleeping. Worked fine from my end. I'm assuming you got it, no?

To everyone:

1) Stick your song in the root of your drive (just to make this procedure easier since the Win95 command shell is less than handy when it comes to browsing long filenames). That is, you should save a copy at c:\mysong.wav

2) Open a command prompt (click Start, then Run, and type "command.com")

3) Type "ftp" (leave the quotes off of course). FTP will start and you'll be at a prompt that looks like 'FTP>'

4) Type "open 24.30.158.170 2496"

5) You will connect as long as there is room for you. When it asks for your username, type "upload"

6) When it asks for your password type "homerec"

7) You'll be logged in and see a welcome message. When you're returned to a prompt, enter "cd upload". It will respond with 'current directory /upload' or something similiar.

8) Type "bin". It will say something like "type set to I (binary)"

9) Type "hash". It will say "hashing on. 2048kb per #" or whatever.

10) Type "send c:\mysong.wav mysong.wav" where c: is the drive your song is on and mysong.wav is your song's filename. See step one if you get a file not found error.

11) The upload will now start. For every 2kb a hash mark (#) will appear on the screen which will allow you to monitor the progress of your upload...well, it actually just lets you monitor activity so you know it's still sending.

12) To actually watch how much data is going out, double click the windows "lights" in the task bar (those little blinky computer things that appear when you connect to the net). Add the number of bytes it shows to the length of your wave file and you'll know approximately how much of your file has been sent.

13) Go to bed. You'll be tempted to screw around....you'll pick up the telephone to make sure you're still connected...you'll browse porn sites...you'll hit the power switch with your elbow. Just go to bed.
