I was talking to a friend about an idea of upgrading my computer without having to buy a new one. My current system is running windows xp and I was thinking about going to vista. only thing is that my computer has 512mb memory and the memory is hard to come by. I also read up on how windows vista can use the memory flash sticks as system memory when it is a readyboost enhanced. So, I was thinking about purchasing the pci card usb hub that is 2.0 usb and adding a memory stick to help out in adding more memory to my computer. That in all is with windows vista already installed and tracking down the drivers for everything else that I have on my computer. Anyone have any advice on this idea?

Yes, don't do it. Unless you want to spend the next 6 months fighting vista fires instead of recording.

If you're rig is so old that you can't get memory for it anymore, it's a hardware upgrade you need, not an operating system change.

If you have a 1/2 decent power supply, then spend a few hundred on a new motherboard, Core 2, video card, a gig of memory, and keep XP.

Good luck. Personally my rig works fine, and it took ages to get it all working so I'm not changing anything until I have to!

I'd rather have a slightly old system that can handle all my music work ok than a shiny new PC that can't...

Vista has a ways to go before it will be suitable for a DAW and authors start using the optimizations relevant to audio software. If your computer is older than 1-2 years (pre C2D) then I would not bother at all since the requirements on the processor, memory, and video a pretty high
