Hello all Fostex freaks.

Using a R-8 R/R today but now is the time to upgrade to 16 channels.

Help me. E-16 or B-16? Or are there more that I should check before final decision ?

Lars.

yea

The B16 is old, and only the B16D is direct drive. You want a direct drive RR, its more stable playing mechanism. I HAD :( a E16, it was wonderful. I will oneday again have another RR. But i suggest you take a look at the G16, the last of the Fostex 16 track RR, it comes with Dolby S on some models which is the best noise reduction system out there. Besides that there is the Tascam MSR16, similar to the Fostex, some people say the tascam are higher quality, i dont know though. If its any better then great! Also, you could upgrade to 1" RR, but those aren't rackable liek the Fostex and Tascam 1/2". Thicker tape does equal better frequency response, less noise, better tape heaadroom etc. But yes, if you are set on fostex, stay away from the B16.

thanks for your help Kristian.

any more out there who wants to say something?
