Hey guys,
i just started recording my drumset with a Tascam US-1641, 2 AKG Perception 170's as Overheads, a Cobalt CO9 and a Rode NT-1A as bassdrum microphones.

The room i play in is pretty small, its in the basement and aswell used for any kind of stuff where saw or hammer is needed :)
Theres a bit of Acoustic Foam in it, and ill build basstraps (foam) for the 2 free corners soon.

My question is: is it useful to upgrade to full micing of the drumset in the future?
My Kit is an unknown Premier one, Troy Cymbals, Spaun Snaredrum. After applying new drumheads it sounds pretty good.

Ill upload a current recording and if needed a photo of the room the next days.

You may have noticed my microphones arent expensive, and if youd like to suggest an update, make sure its not too expensive aswell :)

Close miking everything would be even more useful in a bad room. I'm a big fan of close mics. Purists will say silly stuff like "all you need is one room mic or two overheads", but that's way outdated thinking. Close mics are where it's at. And you can always just not use the tracks if you don't want to.

Well, i cant afford everything :)
Could you give some examples for affordable but still good mics?
Thanks so far

Another thing purists will scoff at are the pre-packaged drum mic kits. They're not great by any means, but they work and do the job and can sound pretty decent.

I use the Cad Pro 7pc kit and a PG57 and I'm mostly happy with it. You can hear my drums in the MP3 clinic.

Ill give this a shot and get the CAD 4-piece set for christmas. As i already have overheads and a LDC and dynamic mic to use i think i can get a somewhat decent sound.

By the way, i have modified the whole room and changed the drumsets position aswell. (carpet everywhere, set up amps and synthesizer and stuff)

Now my problem is the bass frequencies.
The room is 4,83m*2,26m.
Kickdrumm and floor tom have reeaaly long sound, about 2 seconds noticeable i guess.
Although the kit sounds somewhere near decent at the moment, the bass frequencies really suck.

I read a bit about bass traps, but theyre really expensive, and im not that a good craftsman :p
So since my room is small, i thought of buying foam and let someone cut it to be a corner bass trap.

Any ideas on what foam to use, or even an easy guide on how to build more advanced bass traps?

thanks in advance
