I just got a 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 Dell to replace my old slapped together 180 Mhz Pentium machine. It came preloaded with Windows XP Home edition. I've got Cakewalk Pro Audio (7, I believe). I also have a Midiman DMAN 2044 card (which never quite worked right in the old machine). So my first question is, will Pro Audio run in XP? I haven't tried an install yet, but I'm a little worried about that. Secondly, will the DMAN run in XP? Midiman doesn't support this product anymore, so there are no XP drivers - when this happens, do the old 98 drivers usually work? My final question is - what's a decent (but inexpensive) sound card that I can get to hold me over until I can afford something good? I used to do a lot of work on an AWE 64 card - not the best, but it did the job fairly well. I'm not looking for tons of features, but simaltenous record and playback and two tracks at once (at a minimum) would be nice. Any recommendations?
