i have sonar 2.2 and can't decide wether to buy renassance maxx (waves) or to to upgrade to 3.1 producer. is there a big difference is effects quakity and simplicity?
does 3 still have poor dithering down to 16 bit and how steep is the learning curve-

are there any other effects bundles worth considering.
I would like to try my hand at "mastering" and obviously I want it to be as straight forward as possible (simple)

Moskus says waves IMHO is the best but i can't find what it stands for?

I would upgrade to Sonar 3.1 Pro. It's the best thing around after the wheel was invented. ;)

will my 2.2 project be readable in 3.1

also how steep is the leap (learning curve) to 3.1

I was at a project 5 seminar recently and when instructor asked who had sonar 3 most of those people couldn't figure out how to use it !

one of the new features in the 3.1 update is this:
"High-quality sample rate conversion when importing and exporting audio—SONAR now utilizes the ultra high-quality Windowed Sinc resampler algorithm "

Read the rest here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/31update.asp
Dithering is not involved with sample rate conversions. Dithering is used when downgrading the bit depth.

Sonar has always been able to change bit depth.

I say go for 3. The supreme buss routing alone kicks 2's butt. 3 Is so flexible. I also like the new individual mini console ito the left of track view thingy. (not sure what it's acually called, but it rocks). I think if you've got a good handle on 2.2, 3PE will be a breeze for you.

Hmmm... maybe they're stupid... :D

Seriously, if you have some experience using Sonar (version 1 or 2), then Sonar 3 is a very simple. Remember that you always have the big manual to help you out. And of course: we're here! :)

Yeah, agree with those above. With budget on mind, get SONAR 3.1 !!! Waves can wait while combination of Ultrafunk 3 and Lexicon Pantheon will keep you bussy for months...
