I am building a small live room at the moment on top of a 20mm chipboard floor suspended on wooden bearers and joists about one foot from the ground.

I noticed yesterday that I could clearly hear my young daughters footsteps when she was running around the room from outside the building. I am thinking my drums might be a problem if this is the case!!The wall system I have will be fine for my needs but I think this floor will be my weak link and I need to upgrade it somehow. I realize I am not going to get total isolation but a do need to upgrade somehow.

I don't have the headroom to build a floating floor so I was going to add another one or two layers of 20mm flooring once the internal walls are done and seal all seams but I thought I would check in with you guys and see if anyone has any better ideas?

How about sandwiching a layer of rubber carpet underlay in between the chipboard layers to help with flanking and vibrations.

Any sugesstions? - I have about 40mm to play with.

Thanks
