I'm really enjoying all of the useful information on this site. I have a question regarding my specific system, and would appreciate some fresh opinions from the experts. :o

My signal chain is: Shure ksm27 (or PODXT) --> M-Audio Mobilepre --> computer (USB only, no firewire).

What would my system benefit from more: a new preamp in front of the Mobilepre, or a new interface? The budget is about $400. If the interface should be replaced, which USB interface would you recommend? As far as preamps, I'm looking at the FMR RNP.

I'm finding high frequencies to be a bit attenuated through the Mobilepre.

Thanks in advance!

I think you would really need to change both to get an appreciable difference.

Thanks for the response.

What would you recommend as a USB interface with an adequate preamp? I only need two channels on the interface. thanks

Might want to extend your budget a bit beyond $400 to get a difference that would be worth the money. Or do as NL said and upgrade both units.

How did you come to that conclusion and what did you compare it with?

The Mobilepre functions as both preamp and interface in my system, and is the only thing that's between my audio source(s) and computer. And I'm fairly certain it's not the audio source(s) I have.

What would you recommend as a step up from the Mobilepre?
