nice tune ...
I like the doubletime feel you go into at 2:32!
I have a hard time understanding the words ... not really because of his accent, or because he's too quiet ... but because of the lack of presence and a little muddiness in the signal ... I'd pull out a little around 200-300 hz on the voice track and see if it sticks out better. Sounds like he was pretty close to a sm57 or something and the proximity kicked it up a notch. He's got good stuff to say, I wish I could understand it better.
Otherwise, nice clean recording.
Oh, here's a surprise ... but I almost missed it ... I like the chime at the end, but it's kind of a noisy sample. The noise would be hidden if there was a pad or something underneath ... but I see it as an artistic thing ... so go with it.
Good stuff!

hmmm, and i thought i brought the voice samples up really close. the voice is a WAV sample, nobody is speaking into any mics. i thought for once i brought the WAV files up for once. guess not, maybe ill see what i can do with it.
thanks for the input.
anybody else?

hey space, I pretty much agree with everything BigKahuna said.. interesting stuff.. it was hard to get into the music because I was trying to figure out what he was saying.. when I stopped trying to figure out the words, I was able to get into the groove.. I wasn't able to do both at the same time if that makes any sense.. its not the volume of the voice that's the problem, its the frequencies.. try BK's suggestion.. that bell scared me! cool stuff..

HEY!!!! my old friend SABBATH!!!.....
LOL!!!!
that bell signifies the beginning and the end of meditation for budhas. i think anyway...... but im giving the voice frequnecy thing a try today.
ill share something my wife said while she was reading the thread along with me, she said "maybe they should try cleaning the shit out of their ears to understand the words better". LOL!!!!!! i laughed my ass off..... sorry, had to share that with you. LOL!!!:D :D :D :D

ok, i EQ'd the voice. let me know how it sounds now. hopefully a bit better. thanks.

i have become very wary of songs using external samples like the voice at the beginning, but i really like the samples at the beginning here..............very unique idea.......i haven't heard anything like this on the board before...........thumbs up for originality........looks like you've got some good mix suggestions already.....run with it

Okay...I definitely remember you. You did "The Innocent," right? Made my cry. Okay, I'm going to check this tune out, but I'm warning you...if "soundclick" makes me sign up again, I'm gonna' have horrible things to say.

(kidding...I'll be back in 12 hours - once your host has let me in... *sigh*)

I'm sure it's worth it.

thanks powderfinger for the kind words. any explanation for your user identity? im curious... makes me think your light with the touch..LOL!! nothing malicious here. just a giggle and a wonder. thats all. dont take it the wrong way.

SOUNDCLICK, those bastards.....
i gotta change that also.....

i got lots of things going on over here.
things even i dont even know about......

Okay...now it's telling me I have to have the "Soundclick" Flash player...

can you PLEASE post an mp3 of it so I can listen???

hmmm. let me see. oh, i should allow download. im a friggin idiot sometimes, ya know? consider it taken care of in a minute.:)
thats what that guy phyl was talking about in the first post of this thing. iamwe tod dead, iamso faking we tod dead

Empty Of What????

Thank you for enabling the download. I find "Soundlick" to have no cup whatsoever. But back to your song.

I'm having no problem understanding the voice sample (on headphones). Super cool and creative use of everything...except that bell. Oooohh..Hey, this probably won't fit in with your vision, but if you do a crossfade with that bell at the BEGINNING so the end of the ringing bleeds into the first spoken words...Sounds very cool.

Okay, this was worth the effort it took to get it. Speaking of "getting" it, it takes me more than one listen usually to grasp the overall concept of a tune...so I will be listening to this more.

Bye

thanks for the listen. i dont fully understand your idea with the bell. could you explain it more clearly for me? id appreciate your input.
thanks.

Ignore me. You know what you're doing.

It was just that I noticed when I'm looping your song, and the bell rings right at the end, the way I have my MP3 player set up, the next tune starts a little before the last one ends ("crossfading")...like on the radio. Anyway, there's this long pause before your bell comes in, and then, once the bell rings, your song starts again (b/c it's the only one in my player right now), so it makes for a really cool effect when the bell rings, then the beginning of the song starts, and they bleed into each other.

Just a stupid thought. Thanks for the tune.

The music in the background is somewhat interesting, a bit repetitive though.

The narration I find annoying. Too dry, maybe effect the hell out of it or something. Pan it the odd time and bring it down in the mix. I don't know, not really qualified to comment on this genre, but I did anyway.
Like that shift at 2:40 ish. Cool!

I think the music is first rate. The changes at 2:35 and at 4:00 are VERY cool. Just my opinion but I found the voice over distracting. What he had to say was interesting but I wanted to tell him to shut the fuck up till the song's over.:D :D :D I can listen to this.

thanks for the good words my friend. what was it, his accent that pisses everybody off???? LOL!!!

"Pan it the odd time"
emeric,
what do you mean by that?

big kahuna and sabbath, how does the spoken word sound now?

I liked it....narration and all. I found the music to be "back" in the mix....not low in volume...but back...like about 15 feet from front stage. It has a kinda distant/hardroom sound to it. I would like a better fidelity to it also, and bringing it to the forefront more might help. I also found your narration samples to be a tad hissy, and the annoying part for me (sonically) was hearing the hiss cut in and out as the narration poked in and out. That was very noticeable to me... Try some noise reduction?? Especially on the ending bell...which had toooo long a pause before the final bell ring.....unless it means something I missed!!:p
Also, having the background music panned wide (like in the VERY beginning), the vocals were able to cut thru much easier. Then as the pno, drums, etc come in...it is very close to a mono mix, and therefore competes with narration for a place. Having the ear candy split wide was the thing to do. I liked that. I find that having narration, you can get away with a little "less" musically, and I think your music is just fine...nice changes at appropriate times. On the narration again...oh...you didn't record it...right?...but some emotional highs and lows would be helpful too.

neat stuff. I liked it VERY much.

oh...harping on the hiss again. I "almost" would prefer hearing a constant hiss all the way thru (so add some in the 'blank spaces'), as opposed to it coming in and out. Tough call on that, but it would take away the obvious for sure...the punch in...or cut and paste nature of the narration track.
