Update on XP drivers for Aardvark

I just spoke with Thomas Adler of Aardvark about Windows XP drivers, and thought I'd pass on what I learned. Aardvark now anticipates releasing the final drivers on March 29. Maybe I'm jaded, but I am not holding my breath.

I also learned that the pre-release Aardvark XP drivers currently do not have WDM support, and that WDM drivers are expected a few weeks after the final XP drivers. This is a surprise to me, since I had assumed an "XP driver" would have WDM support as an integral part. So, that ultra-low latency that a Sonar/XP combination can provide using WDM drivers might not be possible for a while even after Aardvark makes the final XP drivers.

On the other hand, Thomas also told me that Aardvark's XP drivers will use "new technology" to somehow make better use of the MME drivers and provide "very low" latency comparable to what we expect of WDM drivers. The beta XP drivers, and the pre-releases, did not incorporate this "new technology", but the final versions will.

I pressed him on this point - that Aardvark would develop beta and a pre-release drivers with one technology, then a final version that uses a "new technology", and questioned the three-week timeframe for all this to happen. He told me the "new technology" is no big deal and that "it will work".

So there you go. Anyone feel better about using their Aardvarks with XP in the near future? I think I'll hold onto Windows 98 a while longer.

That's why I come to this board, for the comedy!!! LOL

Talk is cheap, and when it comes to the Aardvark boys, talk is worthless. They have to pony up before I'll believe any of that... like you said we're jaded from being continuously lied to for years.

New MME technology??? WTF every other major card mfr. has done WDM drivers, why they would waste cycles improving MME is a joke. Clearly they just don't have the chops to write real drivers, bottom line is they need to hire coders who know WDM.

I dare them to prove me wrong. :) I've never dealt with a company that far out of touch with reality, but then they tried to tell me that a +12db hiss coming out of my outputs was "normal", so there ye go.

I've been reading the posts for so long now about when they were going to fix this issue... I'd have never bought an Aardvark if I had known that they were going to be this slow with the new drivers... I hate to be negative... but I think they are full of shit.. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!!! I'll be real surprised if the new drivers work... but I hope they prove me wrong.

My 2 cents

Y'know, there's about a $200 difference between the Q10 (which I looked at almost a year ago, but got hung up on the WDM issue)and the M-audio Delta 1010.
As for the pre's ; for the cost differential, you could get four pre's with 2 Audio buddy's.
Oh yeah, you could be making music right now, too.

Aardvark

I can't figure out why a company like Aardvark that makes a great product would take so long to develop WDM drivers. I agree that the best option available right now for Sonar users is The M-Audio Omni Studio. I've heard great things about their drivers, very low latency in XP, and great features. I think the only thing it doesn't have that I would like would be an optical out, but you could get a convertor for the SPDIF out to do that, and it doesn't have a midi interface but of course that's easy to add. So for an all inclusive solution that works and sounds good you could buy the Omni Studio and midi interface for less than $500.00.

I've been looking for a way out of the Aardvark jam for a while. I bought about a year ago. Joke was on me I guess.

I can use it in 98. I can use in 2000 if I want a dropout every ten seconds. And what I really want is wdm.

I'm curious about this "new technology" and how low it can go. RME can get sub 10ms with mme.

Anyway. Yeah, I've been looking for a soundcard fix. 1010 is my unlucky number though. Silly but I could not buy one for that reason alone. What a fool I am
