SOUND DIAGNOSIS

Well, it may be an unmastered cover tune, but it is a precursor for what I intend to do with my original ideas. Used in production: Kurzweil K2600 synth/workstation, Marshall V67 LD condenser, JoeMeek VC3Q, and a Turtle Beach Montego Soundcard, Cakewalk pro8, Cooledit 1.0...and a Dell 333 p2..(old shit, LOL)...and LOTS of help from some GREAT folks on this board....and a very tolerant wife and kid! :) How'd I do?

very faithful cover.....everything in the mix sounds pretty well balanced.....

the guitar arrangement in the intro seems a little clustered.....is that more than one part?...i'd stick with one part.....

vocal wise, i like the sound of your voice (translated : you sing 100 times better than me) , but id dont know if it fits this song.....Enrique put his stamp on it, and thats hard to match.....

overall, a great effort.....

No shit, Gidge! He sure as hell did put a stamp on it allright. I perform this tune a bit different nowadays anyway...kinda "latin" it up for the purist in me, LOL. As for the guitar....I am still trying to get a hold of getting this keyboard to sound like a gee-tar, dag-nabit! Thanks so much Gidge for taking the time to listen, and for me to borrow your ears. I appreciate your expertise as I have in the past on this site!

very nice!! yeah, i like your voice alot!!! so im glad it's up front like this. im not crazy about the sound of the horns and the bass,
but im sure that can be fixed easily(as i know nothing about synth's):D did you say the guitar was a keyboard!! WOW! that sounds convincing , if it is?? i thought the mix was great!!

thanks for sharing this , man!!

peace

rick

oh, wait...that is a keyboard?? the solo gave it away, i think??

Thanks Badgas. Hmmm....B A D G A S....That is an interesting "handle", no doubt! Do you "rule" in the household? Are you really the Superhero, "Methane Man".....or what???? Thanks for listening.

And I thank you, Rick....Yeah, thats all the "stock sounds" on my Kurz. I have been working on emulating a guitar and I am kinda pleased with most of what had transpired during the course of putting that together. I was lucky insofar as I layed the guitar track down in 1 take. I really was kinda rushed to get this dang demo done. Still took 3 weeks between that tune and another that is on the same CD. I also lost my hardrive with the original demo on it, so what you are hearing is a copy that was ripped off the audio CD, and the converted to MP3. :( I have a feeling something was lost along the way. I used to play the French horn. I coulda used a buncha hornplayerz! LOL

i listened a few more time's, because that synth git, sound's pretty damn good to me!! i think i would have been fooled, had i not been listening for it! :D (damn these ear's!!):)

thank's again

peace

rick

with a mix that good, you should be able to make your own stuff into fine wine dude. I enjoyed the separation and balance in the mix.

I am so flattered by all of your kind words. I truly am! :) Ken, Rick.....and the whole lot of you guyz! I still know shit about this monstrosity of a Synth, but I got enuff of a handle on this sucker to lay down some sequences and got some dang good el' cheapo equipment thanks to all the advice on the net....ESPECIALLY this board. Second to none, the folks in here. I really could not have done the demo this well without a lot if help from the good folks here. I just can't say enough about youse' guyz.! Now about that wine? \_/ \_/ \_/ \_/ <~~~DRINKS ON THE HOUSE.
Y Y Y Y <~~~~WINE

Please...no P.W.I (posting whilst intoxicated) :D :D :D

You mean these boards..............or Denham springs? :D Shit, in Fort Myers Florida, dranking and driving is a sport! Tank tops, tatoos, bad teeth and bad breath are what I would expect if I were to gig in most local clubs as well. Probably will gig at street fairs for the "artsey" crowd. Got a gig at a Karaoke bar coming up. Time to kick ass in "enemy territory". Woohoo

damn, Ft. Myers sounds like this little hell hole im in.....

but i was referring to the BBS....:D

Nice job. Pretty song. Good job on on the vox. I liked the bass sound you had going.

Some effect on the vocals is not quite right. A bit too much reverb perhaps. With a song like this, my taste would dictate not too many effects on the vocals.

Good job.

Just the opposite from me. I think the verb on the vocal is just right. I'm impressed with the sound you're getting out of the Kurz. The acoustic sounds pretty convincing. The strings were lush. Not bad at all.

4446 posts! Holy moley, Track! You must OWN this place. :D
Thanks for listening and commenting on this effort, Track and Triple. I actually thought I should have boosted the chamber a bit more on the right, but "it is what it is". All I can say is..... when I wanted to be in the music business....like 25 years ago, these tools were not even remotely available. I guess we are all blessed by the availability of these toys so we can better express ourselves. I'll tell ya one thing, making up my "own band" sure as hell beats dealing with some of the irresponsible miscreants that reside around my area. I never thought I was ever going to "play with myself" in front of an audience.  :D

sounds really good for a turtle beach effort...

this song and video are just way to sappy for me...something about enrique all together...kinda weird.

looking forward to hearing some originals.

Hey Wes. So am I. I can't wait. I'll post em' as soon as feasible. Thanks so much for listening! -----Lee

P.S. If you can believe it, I never even saw that video, although I saw Jimmy Fallon on the MTV awards imitate Enrique with the wind's-a- blowin', chest-a-barin' Latin hearthrob look. I guess that is from the video. I really loved the structure of the original tune. The sections. The cymbal crescendos. The simplicity of it all. And those backup strings. I think this was a brilliant pop arrangement. So are the strings from the tune "Drops Of Jupiter" by Train. Yeah, I know you think Enrique blows and I think he does too. But he "blew" a nice tune my way and it was fun-fodder-finger food and I fell for it. LOL

Sad ain't it. What can I say. I like hanging out with musicians. Even drummers (well.......sometimes). I just noticed you did this with a Turtle Beach card. I'm even more impressed.

I just noticed you did this with a Turtle Beach card.

Well, this particular card (Montego Bay) is at least rated a moderately good by this dude:

http://www.pcavtech.com/

Had no choice. Bought this Dell 333 PII with the best card available for the offering in the "Dell inventory" that they had at the time. If I knew, I would have bought considerably better shit right off the bat. It was my first puter, though. (Young, dum and full of cum at the time) :D Little did I know that I would be taking a stab at the "bidness" 5 years later! One thing I did was check all input and output levels and find where my noise floor was originating from and QUASHED it as I went along in the production process. Does that makes sense?
Let's face it, I know jack-shit about this business, but I am eagerly learning the "basic" gist of at least putting this shit down on tracks and making it sound like the "big boys". Thanks for all the encouragement!
