just wondering if anyone has any real world expiriences with UA pres. possibly looking at 1 or 2 of the solo 610's, or 110's. cant decide. probably leaning toward the 610's.
i've used the 2-610 before, and i can tell you that they sound pristine as hell...if the pre in the solo 610 is as close as they claim i'm sure you'd be pretty happy with it. i'm going to buy one myself, as soon as i get a spare $800 =/
Universal Audio is an awesome company in every way. The company is actually owned bye Bill Putnam's son (Bill Putnam invented the 1176, 110 and the 610 among other things) and most the outboard gear that UA makes currently was built using Bill Putnam's actual hand written diagrams and spec sheets. (he actually found them cleaning out his attic after Bill died) They can make them faster and alot cheaper these days but they pain-stakingly keep making them exactally how Bill Putnam originally made them, every piece hand wired. The solo series is just that, a much more cost effective way of making the 610/110 the only difference really is that they are printed circuit boards instead of hand wired. Also they are much smaller and not rackmountable like the original's. They should sound exactally the same, just built different is all. Their gear sounds amazing, and if I was ever to buy gear just because of how great the people who run the company are, then UA would have my vote. Very nice people, and very well built gear. UA has my vote every time.
