undo record?

i just have to ask this because its been bugging me. is there a way to undo a recording in cool edit/adobe audition? i've accidently had a track set to record and recorded over something that i wanted to keep..and i dont know how to undo the recording !
 
Did that just last night...if you havent saved the session or closed the session...you should be ok...I had to undo like 50 times to find the track i accidently recorded over..but I was able to recover it.
 
what do you mean? no matter how much i push undo it doesnt undo the recording .

i can undo record in a free program audacity, but i cant do it in cool edit? there has to be a way.
 
You can do it in Cool Edit, it's a standard setting in the panel. Make sure you have the box checked.

sorry, that doesn't really help find where it is. can you be a bit more descriptive in where i can find it?

theres an undo...but like i said it doesnt undo a record.
 
Okay heres what youre gonna wanna do. View your Cool edit pro in multi track view. Then click on the track after you first record it. Have only the one track highlighted. Then go to Edit > Allow Multiple Takes.

After you record over it ... your new take will be there but you can go back to the edit toolbar and right under where Allow Multiple Takes is written , it will say "Take History". There you can view the takes youve recorded or just click back on your first take without having lost it.

Hope this helped. You gave me the motivation to go find it because I'll admit that ive recorded over takes that ive liked (more than once :( ) . So far this method has worked great for me and I hope it has solved your problem. Thanks.
 
ah yes, that does help to an extent, thanks alot.

i still wish there was an easier way incase you forget to check that option for every track. i guess i'll have to get in a good habit of remembering.
 
Yea I agree. I think it should be more of a default option in Cool Edit. Like as it would just do it on its own , I dont see why anyone wouldnt like that. Maybe they do have this function in Adobe Audition? Im bound to record over something again ... and again. Good luck with it my man.
 
As long as you don't save anything close the program do not save nothing your original recording will be untouched.
 
The way that I know of is double left click the track you accidentally recorded over. That will take you into single track mode, then just click the undo button untill it takes you back to your original recording.
