Who do you reckon is the most underrated guitarist?

You always hear stuff like slash is amazing and EVH is god!

But what about the guitarists who are truly amazing but dont get the recognotion they deserve, like richie sambora(Bon Jovi) and Graham Coxon(Blur).

So yeah basically who do you reckon is the most underrated guitarist?

loved by musicians but unknown by music fans..

Ty Tabor of King's X

I've gotta go with Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes. That guy's got tone for days, and the feel in his playing is second-to-none.

The guy from White Lion (Vito Bratta or something like that..) That guy wrote some of the coolest riffs on the planet! I play that stuff everyonce in a while down at the local guitar shop and all the kids in there are like "What the $&#$* was that???" followed by Whoa! :) Kids now days,....they crack me up!

Another one is Dan Huff - You may think his name sounds familiar,...that's be cause he's like the producer for Faith Hill and some other big guns.......But that guy can play!! He played in a band called WhiteHeart years ago, and did some cool work in that band, but he recorded an album with Mathew Ward called Armed and Dangerous - He really shinned on that album!

That's two that I can think of off of the top of my head. :(

Rick

dont lough at me .... Danny Cedrone

Bill Haleys first guitarist ... (he died fracturing his scull walking (slipping) on an icy street)

just listen at that friggn solo in "rock around the clock" ... I doubt there are many of the self proclaimed shredder-kings that could play it as clean as Danny - let alone make up this solo 50 yrs ago...

cheers
alfred

Here are a few that I think are underrated. These guys all have excellent tone, and talent.

Pepper Keenan (Corrosion of Conformity (COC) and Down)
Vivan Campbell (Dio and Def Leppard)
George Lynch (Dokken and Lynch Mob)
Henry Garza (Los Lonely Boys)

Mick Box of the great legendary Uriah Heep.

I think he rocks, though him and his band never got the attention they deserved.

Those guys from thin lizzy...Steve Lukather...Neil Gerraldo.

I once saw the Karate Kid kick Steve Vai's ass in a guitar contest...but I never see you guys post that hes a guitar god.

Ever wonder how King's X can always be considered synonymous with "underrated"? Seems like everyone feels this way, which should somehow make them...er..."rated".

For the record, I agree.

Crossroads was a pretty cool movie! :) Who was actually playing Danielsons parts in the movie........was it Steve V.?

The worst part of that movie - When Steve V. dropped/through his Jackson/Charvel down on the ground after being "beat".

Best part of that movie - When Steve V. holds the guitar out in front of him by the whammy bar facing towards the tail of the guitar and shakes it violently making for some really cool trem. effects! :D

Rick

all these guys mentioned by y'all are great underrated guitarists..

but my personal favorite underrated guitarist is Prince....laugh if you must but the guy can shred :P

Rick

Steve Vai played the "classical" licks for Ralph Machio during the duel. The blues stuff was played by Ry Cooder.

Yeah. Kings X is my all time favorite. I never get tired of listening to their CD's. I just listened to their self titled release yesterday. Its one of those Cd's (like just about all of them)that you put in and have to listen to every song. Just to hear the production of the vocals, and the drum set sounds so real. (have you ever put your headphones on and just focused on the drums?? paticularily the kick drum) It is so natural sounding to me.

then how can you not love the tone of Ty Tabor, and his melodic, frantic, playing. It really moves me everytime i listen.

They should have been bigger than they are, but maybe that would have ruined it a little.

YEP !!!!

This might create a laugh or two.... I always thought Lindsey Buckingham was amazing. He doesnt use a pick most times and is very inovative...

id have to say frusciante. you'll say hes not underrated because loads of people think hes good, but they dont think hes as good as he is. and i dont just mean his chilis stuff. if you listen to his first 2 solo albums, sure, you can practicaly smell the heroin, what hes playing is from his soul and you can tell. not many people can do that.

Amen to that. Saw him in concert last year and he completely blew my mind.
