Mike..Lead vocals are outstanding..they're places all thru the song where i'm having to focus pretty hard to understand the words though. Only thing i would do if it were my mix would be ride the fader on the lead vox in spots imho. Everything else is just a killer mix and the performance and voice is super. That vocal riff at the 4:10 mark...is that you or Tom? I can't tell:D dammit! But it rocks who ever it is..

Tom..You're such a fukin monster dude:D , one question...@2:34, that's a volume swell? Thought it was the synth the first time around:) nice chops bud.

Rock on!! Big ass Billy Squire guitar sound No complaints mix wise.

very nice tune and performance. My only complaints are the reverb(on the gtr...heard in the breaks) and the "narrow-ness" of the panning of the mix. Also hearing different qualities of sound (sonically) on the singing too...like the reverb changes, whether it actually does or not. This vocal reminds me of that new guy in VanHalen a lot of the time.

I like the crazy synth stuff.:)

yeah...seems to be an abundance of "room" reverb in there that takes away a small amount of the impact of the punch.

Hell yeah! Great vocals! The 'oooooooooh' at 0:45 is awesome....

I love those multiple guitar parts! Very creative too! The drum 'fill' at 2:11 is great.

The rhythmic 'rapping in unison with the guitar' vocal-thing (3:55) is way cool!

Nice 'cock rock' guitarsolo, SLuiCe....I didn't expect you to go 'cock' all the way! ;)

(Guernica, after all your nice words on my music, I'm so glad you don't suck!) :D

*starts downloading all of Guernica's tracks*

Gee, it never occurred to me your name on NWR would be Guernica too. Why didn't I check it out earlier? I like all your music! You're a damn fine vocalist (I love that Ozzy-esque sound), performer & arranger, Guernica!

I think sluicey was refering to lyrical content more than musical w/ that title:D . ......real busy? ....I know what you mean;)

Ya, exactly..."under sirty sheets"... :) If that ain't a buldgey jeans title....

- Jamal-sometimes im not sure if having all of those options at your disposal (triton) is a good thing. This was another write as you record song.....and when i do that, i think i have a tendancy to PILE IT ON:D :D . Im doing another acoustic tune next...... prewritten, and fully complete in my mind. I think those circumstances will make a much better use of the tritons tools.

Record the ideas as they come. Listen back the next day.
That's the formula for Triton success. :) And don't settle on ANY Triton sound that you thought was cool when you were stoned without giving it a next-day opinion. If I leave only one piece of information behind in this world....

This has to be one of the best collabs heard here.. It makes me proud to own a 788.. :)

Tom - those leads are great.. It's funny because people know you for your vocals, but your guitar is just as good if not even better than your vocals.. That's saying a lot..

Let's hear some details on how this thing went down.. Did you send seperate tracks or just send mixes back and forth?

Mike - you da freakin' man! I really like some of your vocal phrasings.. (not sure if that's the right word.) I like the way you sing it, as well as the notes you sing... I actually read through this thread, and some of the things pointed out by other people are actually things I liked about it.. I thought the sounds were all good.. I do hear some of those vocal things we speak about re: vocals that are performed loud, but that's probably because I listened pretty loud the first time.. I also found it hard to make out some of the words in a few spots..

Is that Tom making the guitar noises throughout the tune or is that you doing the harmonic stuff..

I won't nitpick this to death, but if I was on a mission to find nits, I would say the drums sound cheaper than everything else, and lack some punch during the louder sections...

Definitely a five star collab without a doubt.. I also like that the mix isn't pinned to the ceiling.. It's at just the right volume.. The keyboard intro and outro were o.k., but didn't seem to have anything at all to do with the song.. We all know I do the same thing though.. It's hard not to force keys in sometimes..:D

Is the turntable type scratching sound bass? cool... Just a great tune overall.. The big guitar solo had a note or two that stabbed my brain, but that's hard not to do.. Love the solo though..

Im recording with a tascam 788 8 track right now. I'll never dis it 'cause its a GREAT, trustworthy little recorder. ......but ive wayyy outgrown it. I do alot of bouncing. way too much. Ive got probably 30-35 tracks bounced into various combinations in this, and it really makes you do alot of guesswork when putting together a mix. I hope to get a solid/dedicated audio 'puter, and.......either sonar or cubase by the end of the year.

WTF!!? :D You used 30-35 tracks? I used almost 100 virutal tracks on 'rags' just because of submixes, but I labeled them so it was easy to remix later.. Are you labeling your virtual tracks?? I have been using the computer for more and more music stuff, but I don't think I'll ever make the full switch over to strictly computer.. It doesn't seem right always having to equate music with a computer screen.. Make sure you get a good soundcard otherwise you will quickly notice how much better than 788 sounds compared to a basic soundblaster card..

this reply is too long..:o

great job guys! I regret I only have 5 stars to give..

Hey Sam, thanks a lot for the git compliments. Real quickly wanted to clarify to everyone that all I did was the guitar solo. Mike did ALL the other stuff, including mixing. I just played a little guitar solo on his GREAT BIG song.

David-Hey man:) Im hearing ya re: the vocal being a touch in and out. I'll ride that fader a little more when i re-mix. thanks for tuning in man.

RICK .... :D .....thanks Rick. Man.... Im glad you found your way back from Troll-land. .......you were missed.

Doug- :D :D ......you know, I never thought of that. These "are" Billy squier" guitars arent they....... Well, if i ever wanna do a cover of "Stroke"...... I know there's finally some place that my guitars might sound right. ......thanks for listening man.

Mixmkr.....vocal BINGO! Your comments re: the "changing effects on the lead vocs" are spot on. I had a hell of a time w/ proximity on this. My little room slides in a really shitty sounding verb when recording loud vocs w/ a condenser. You can hear the prox. fade in and out w/ my volume. Ive got some construction work to do......:) Im witcha on the guits too. I may try to just cut the verb on those....... but by doing that i return to a more squeezed, overprocessed sound (ala monkeyfeet)..... My big guits bum me out man.

Ped...thanks for stopping by man:) Im glad you enjoyed the other tunes.:)

Tom- .......you know ive been in this room since the end of 2001'ish. ....And the thing that keeps me coming back even more than the abundance of talent in this clinic is the quality of people that hang out here. You are a shining example of that my brutha.... ....a great guy.
....Ive learned that the state of Maine raises some really wonderful people. :)

Sam- :) For very obvious reasons, i was looking forward to your listen.
First collab logistics........Tom sent me the solo-work, and i put it in....... the tones and talent there are all his. I heard the braindart you mentioned........ Im gonna mess w/ that.
Re: vocs....Yeah man..... Proximity is a BITCH!!! (see mixmkr) Im gonna have to actually construct a booth in my room before i try loud vocs again......... .....that shitty, roomy, kinda howling lower mid thing in the lead vocs cannot be dealt w/ with eg.......I know this because i probably spent 6 hours trying:D :D
Guits: I did all of the guits in this except the solo....... basically.... when the tone gets shitty.... Its me :D :D .
The scratching: I KNEW you would mention that. .....We share a fondness for that kinda shit. Those are actually guit. scatch sounds sampled into the arpegiator...... Ive found that that thing is a really cool tool.
788: I love that little recorder man......... totally trustworthy and predictable. ....and yeah, i use the virtual tracks like you do. .....but, I get tired of telling myself to "remember to bring down the bass when I get back to the rhythm sub-mix". ....and never "really" knowing how much to cut or how to eq it when i get there. I want it all out in front of me......... Besides, I WANT AUTOMATION........of some kind. I can see how that would add a whole new dimension to the dynamics of a persons mixes.

.......this was my "song for Sammy" btw. This song was totally inspired by you. .....and Im very very happy that you like it!!:) thanks bro

......btw: Im gettin my "flow" together..... for the Rap collab. Look out 50cent......... Samicide and G are goin for the dollar.......
..........holler!:D :D :D

Ive just about had my fill of all these Pro quality posts!!! :D

Great Job

Now What can I do about this depression;)
You guys are Toooo good
Maybe another 30 years of practice will help me

Peace
Bill

cool stuff guys!
the mix sounding really nice :)
seems like your making your way around the triton quite well
this really has the same feel as the monkeyfeet song, alt rock/funk classic g..man
ive been trying to think of the early ninetys singer you sound like but i just cant think of the band.. i remember seeing them open up for aerosmith early 90's?
cool guitars also by tom

*****
5 star performance

every good arrangement and playing. The singing was full of energy as well. THe mix was very clean. The analog pad sounds were really good, although a couple of places seemed a bit alien to the arrangement. The bass tone was 6ft tall , loved it. Drums not quite as fat as I`ve heard from you, but good. I had to listen twice cause I was looking for longer sections of steady groove, this changes up a lot which is a new deal, i liked it.

All I can say is: YOU GUYS FUCKIN ROCKED ON THIS! All around great--loved everything!

reminds me a lot of what b.sabbath would do here, similar guitar tone........sounds great............very nice production..........complex, but not so much that it loses focus.

some nice leads in there too.........as well as great singing

Man,now that's what I call a collaboration!
Everything was great, definitly some of the best Iv'e heard yet.

Not only are you guys both fantastic talents, but oooooooh the mix!:D
To get a collab to sound like it was tracked together in a studio, genius!

Great vocals and writing as always Mike, and Sluice you rock my socks!

Thanks guys,
Pete

I haven't had time to listen to much lately, but i'm really glad I caught this. This is seriously good! Quite up to snuff as usual for you G, and some killer guitar work by the sluicemeister! The only thing this song needs is a Chris Harris vocal!:D

Twist

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D

Another fine tune from you Mike, and a really great guitar ride from Tom. Really ya'll.....Sam is right.....this is a first rate collaboration.
The mix is good enough for me to be blown away.

Holy Mother of God!

Mike,

I'm so blown away by EVERYTHING...........This one is gonna take 20 or so listens!!!!!!!!!!!........then, I'll listen to it purely for fun:)

Sorry guys, again, I have no comments on the mix as IT SOUNDS FRIGGIN' PERFECT TO ME . I'm more of a a 'playa' than mixologist by far, but I'm learning from you guys!

Mike & Tom-This is the best collab I've heard yet on this board!

WTF.......So much good, no, GREAT musicianship here, I am in awe!

Compositionally flawless/ marraige of these lyrics and music will celebrate for years to come, . ..............hold on ............wtf was that at @ 2:34???? OMG! I think I just shot another load......... (musically & aesthetically speaking sirs)...MAN! Tom ! is that sweet or what????? Fuck, the entire solo kills me.

Mike & Tom .............5 BIG ONES!

Tom, you're up the road only a piece? (57 and cloudy today in New England!!!!) I'm on! LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

peace,
Ralph

Just wanted to reiterate (in case it was missed) that all I did was the guitar solo. I'm very happy peeps liked it, but this tune and production is really all Mike!
