Here are a couple of hopefully basic questions. Can anyone shed some light on these things?
1) Balanced vs. unbalanced inputs: Could someone explain what the differences are? It would seem like "balanced" would be better, but I don't know what's involved. I'm thinking of connecting my mixer to my soundcard using my mixer's tape out RCA outputs using a RCA to 1/8" stereo jack cable. But, I saw that the tape outs on my mixer are "unbalanced", so now I'm thinking that it's an inferior method compared with the other outs... ?
2) DI box: I was doing a little research and saw that some of these claim to be able to eliminate buzz and hum while boosting signal. Are they worth it? I am having trouble getting my signal from my mics, bass, or acoustic/electric guitar up to the desired meter reading on my mixer without setting the gain or level up to a point where I'm also getting nasty buzz. Could a DI box help, or is it just that I have a cheap Behringer (supposedly low-noise...) MX602A mixer?
Thanks!
