For plug-in junkies the latest version of Ultrafunks effects are available. Version 3.0. They look pretty cool. I have been waiting to get hold of the 4 band compressor.

Looks my weekend just got filled.

MM,

I was a beta tester and I can tell you the new UltraFunk plug-ins are truly fabulous.

Ethen, I really like the way you can stack muliple copies of these plug-ins to get various results and they are still very efficient with CPU cycles.

How did the delay and multiband turn out, if you are not under non-disclosure?

They're great, of course. I haven't used the multiband compressor for anything "real" other than testing it, but it's as nice as you'd expect and the screen layout is very clear.

Two great new features are "A" and "B" settings that you can switch between, and Undo.

Ethan, got the plugins. WOW! Absolutely blew me away. The compressor is as close to hardware as I have heard. The reverb is well, in a word, fantastic. These guys, or should I say guy (Christian Krohgs) really nailed it on this issue.

I cannot afford the Waves bundle but am not really sure I would miss them after hearing these.

I prefer the UltraFunk plug-ins over the Waves. Less clutter, no extra support stuff installed, lower CPU overhead for most plugs, etc. And perhaps most important, the UltraFunk plug-ins are not copy protected.

but they prolly don't SOUND as good...at least thats what i thought of version 2(i think thats what it was...the newest one before version 3) too make a long story short they reminded me of the sonar built in efx...compressor is flat..reverb sounds to "digital"...don't remember the other stuff

Teacher, I would have to disagree. I think they are right up there with Waves, however, this is based on Waves demos that I A/Bd so there is margin for error.

Check out rev 3.0. The compressor is very impressive. In fact the whole line except for the wah wah sound dramatically better.

Here is a mini review/opinion:

Compressor - seems more accurate and subtle changes on the sliders can be heard more readily. It really comes close to hardware IMHO. I compared it to my RNC and it is almost there on the smoothness (about 85% I think) . The vocal preset especially. There is also a keyboard preset which I have found useful. (I won't be abandoning the RNC however as I would prefer to compress outside the box. If I get time this week I am going to build some file comparisons.

Reverb - Deeper plate sounding than Rev 2. and more natural sounding. Emulates a pro studio environment very well I think. Better presets too.

Multiband - I like the 5 band interface which provides a good visual for what frequencies are being affected. Sound is excellent,

Equalizer - No real sound differnce but controls are more sound responsive like the Compressors. I think the 5 band parametric is as good as any I have heard. My comparisons are to demo versions of Timeworks and Waves.

Gate - very good response times although I would prefer to gate outside the box.

Delay - This is probably the biggest improvement in the set to my ears. Good natural decays, wide sounding. Very hardware sounding with extremely good high end sizzle.

Phaser and Wah - Both are improved sounding but I dont use these except on guitar.

Maybe someone who has a non demo version of the Waves bundle can respond back after they AB this new version. Overall the low CPU cycles really help out about 16+ tracks on my machine.

I'm done, have raved enough.

those are BOLD words comparing it to an RNC  i need to get one of those damn things

do u have Sonar 2.0 XL? if so compare it to the compressorX...i think the compressor X is as good if not maybe better then Waves RCL(thats the one i used don't mess wit the C1 or C4 like that)....

TCHR,

No, I have Sonar 2.0 but I did do the A/B on compressor X and it was definitely better than Ultrafunk 2.0. However, the latest version 3.0, I really think sounds better than Compressor X. It has a real smooth sound (warm almost analog) and with 5 bands of control lets you dial in right on the transients. I have a real midrange voice and am finding that if I compress from 500K to 1500K (depends on the song), I don't end up having to EQ as much.

All this is opinion on my part until I get some files here. Wow I hate putting my voice out there but its the only reference file I have. Work is busy this week and I am too burned to concentrate at night but this weekend I will set some examples out there with the RNC, Ultrafunk and Compressor X. I will use the same settings for each one and you will hear what I hear. La oreja será la oreja

the compressor in the ultrafunk is a multiband compressor? and u think it sounds better whoa! if its a multiband thats impressive, don't really like multiband compressors they don't sounds transparent at all from the ones i've used C-4, Linear Multiband, Steinberg ME...

maybe i was exagerrating about compressorx sounding better haven't used it as much as the RCL but its auto release is pretty decent
