Its not a pissing contest. Your measuring stick should be the sound of your recordings-- thats where you are as a producer and engineer. Spending over $1k on every item in your studio doesnt make you a pro,,,you know the drill,,, blah blah blah, etc etc etc. Get a grip here. Although there is a tendency to judge people by the gear they use, its very misplaced.

Chess,my boys need a house.:D MCR,if your head were on fire I would use water or toss a blanket over it or something!

Now that we're squared away on the purpose of the thread, tommorow if I have time I'll lift up my skirt and let you guys take a peek. There ain't much up there to get too excited over, but it's enough for me to play with!!:D

things I own and use on a regular basis

I own way to much rack stuff to list (some vintage gear gets used very little), but this is what I use on a regular basis in almost all my recording:

(2) ART PRO MPA 2 ch. tube pre's
(2) DBX 286a channel strips

(2) ART PRO VLA 2 ch. tube comp's
(2) ALESIS 3630 comps (yep I think they sound just fine)
(1) Bellari 2 ch tube comp

(1) Sony DSP V55 4 ch studio FX's
(1) Digitech Vocallist II harmonizer

(4) AB international 31 band EQ's

(2) ADAT xt's
(1) Tascam DA 30 MKII
(1) Marantz Dual well CD burner

(1) D4 drum module

(1) Roland GR 50 guitar midi synth

(1) POD

I have vintage DBX 160 VU's, 161 VU's, 119's comps but prefer the ART PRO VLA (opto) comps. (actually have a few of these for sale)

A dozen or more ea. of guitars, amps, mics etc.

I hope this helps. I think the talent your recording and how you capture it, is more important the the gear you use to do it.

JOE

PS: to anyone wanting to piss on my head to put out a fire...LET ME BURN!!!

Heylow---You got it, friend! The amp is a Fender blackface lover's dream come true! David Allen is one of those rare people--no ego trips, just friendly and armed with knowledge. After I built mine, I decided to build another one on a SF Bassman chassis, He sold me the whole wired circuit board and all the extras for like $100 bucks. He just knows his shit cold. I can't say enough nice things about him.

When I bought mine, it came with a pair of Weber 10's. After David came out with his Allen 10's I bought a pair of them from him and they made the amp even better, if thats possible. Its always a joy to play through the Allen. Sounds great with every guitar I own, too!

I hear that! The bottom line.

Check this out....

I bought mine and built it over a year ago. I recently blew a speaker by some fluke and he was out of his speakers so he sent me a brand new Eminence something or other as a loaner until he got his in....AND he split the shipping with me. I found out he buys all the new speakers on the market just to compare and make certain he is offering the top notch speaker.

The blown one is out of warranty of course (he only gets 30 days from the manufacturer) but he felt bad and split the cost of the new speaker with as well...I only paid half price with the agreement that I send him his Eminence and the blown one for inspection so he can determine what the problem was....he said Iwas his first reported blown speaker.

Nice to see other folks out there with these amps.

I have no outboard comps or preamps. I haven't needed any up until now. Maybe someday I'll pick up one or two or four. Crap, then I'll have to plug it all in and figure out how to use it. Nevermind.
I'm gettin that "bong" though (preordered it at musiciansfriend) ... I hear it makes ANY mix sound good, plus it's really easy to use. I don't own it yet, so I guess I shouldn't comment on it. I'll test it out when I get it and post mp3s. I know, I'll make it a contest, you guys can guess which mp3 has been bongolated and which one hasn't. Sound good?

until you get the "bong" you shouldn't be calling yourself BigKahuna ... :D
