I agree with the many comments regarding having used a piece of equipment. There's probably a spectrum for owning, having owned, having used, and demoing equipment. A point can be reached after enough use that one is qualified to comment on equipment.

For example, regarding demoing equipment, some equipment you can just try in a store and know it sucks. Other equipment you may try and not like, but the equipment may take more time to understand than you have in a store. Other equipment may sound great in the store, but it may not lend itself to good use in actual application. Other equipment may not lend itself to a proper audition in a store.

Also, just because someone owns a piece of equipment does not make them an authority on the equipment. Especially because they may not have experience with any other equipment.

14) ART Tube MP/Studio/Channel Tried TubeMP didn't like
15) Mindprint DI 1x have, like
16) Grace 101
17) M-Audio DMP2/DMP3
18) Presonus Blue Tube have, like more than ART, but don't really like

Other gear maybe useful for others to know about:

1X Shure SM57
1x Rode NT2
2x AT 4041 (experience, not own)
2x AKG C1000 (experience, not own)
1x EV ND 868 (model? kick drum mic) (used to own)
2x MXL 603S (arriving in a few days, but so many here have them you don't need my opinion anyway)
1x VS880
1x Echo Gina
1x Digi MBox (experience, not own)
1x Dan Alexander racked Class A Neve (1 channel)
1x Ibanez Roadstar II bass
1x Ibanex Roadstar II guitar
1x Yamaha BB3300 fretless bass
1x cheap-ass ($40 used) Ibanez compressor/EQ/notch filter thingie for bass (sounds pretty cool for live, IMO)
1x Voce II Hammond B3 module
1x Roland U-20 synth
1x Roland Juno 106
1x Baldwin conservatory (Hamilton) upright piano
1x Kawaii baby grand piano
2x Event 20/20 monitors

1x Kambala 13 x 24" Djembe (I think that's the dimension
misc. percussion things like rainstick, guiro, etc.

And stuffs that get even more miscellaneous than that. More than you ever wanted to know, probably.

As I said at the beginning of this thread: If you know somebody personally who owns gear you want to put on the list, please feel free to do so. Then, when you talk about gear it's certainly helpful (always) to tell people if you indeed own or simply know the piece of gear you're talking about.

I guess this thread serves two purposes. One, to see what gear is actually being used out there and in what numbers. Two, to see who might have an experienced say about it.

I'd be happy if everybody listed the gear of their friends as well - just state it when you quote it.

Post people, post. There's so much talking going on on this forum - might as well spend 30 secs and tell us what you got ;)

I own and use daily these exceedingly wise bang for the buck items. :) Although fairly modest, this is all you need to do pro work. Get your notebooks out:

Pres and comps currently on the presmises (may change in a month as I empty my pockets for the Buzz):
Soundcraft M8
Mindprint Envoice
Mindprint Diport
2 RNCs
DMP2

Some mics and pres I previously owned, borrowed, used in another studio or bought and returned and may yet buy again:

Buzz MA2
Grace 101
Amek 9098
Presonus MP20
Presonus VXP
Focusrite Voicemaster
Focusrite Trakmaster
ART Pro MPA
ART tube mp
ART TPS

AT4050
BLUE baby bottle
dbx 376
SM81
Mackie 1202VLZ
Oktava MC-319

This is not an exhaustive list and theres plenty of stuff I have heard in a store or live setting.

I also use a delta 1010, CEP, waves native gold bundle, Reason, Pro 52, B4, PSP mixpack & vintage warmer, steinberg mastering plugs, magneto, some spinaudio and other stuff thats not coming to mind right now. Also some old roland keyboards, Event PS5s, J station, POD, an Ibanez bass and guitar, a sonor drumset, zildian A custom cymbals, sabian splash, DW double pedals, a pintech concertcast set (looking for a used TD8), a mixim10 submixer, plextor CDwriter and other odds and ends.

I don't mind seeing people list their equipment but I find this post and the attitudes on this post rather insulting.Personally I don't post about any equipment that I don't own(except to ask about equipment that I haven't used). And this being the internet and all, just what makes you think that if people aren't truthful in response to a thread, that they will be truthful in this thread. If people wanted to bullshit they could bullshit anytime.

That crack about little players with one preamp piping in was just plain bullshit. This is homerecording.com and if you think that an equipment list makes you the grand poopah you are sadly mistaken. This site is supposed to be about helping each other out but if you're going to take that attitude I wouldn't piss on you if your head were on fire.

Uh . . . well . . . alright, then! :)

Ahem!

Anyone else there have anything to list ? Keep in mind (Randy) that this is strictly a voluntary thing, and if your panties are going to get in a wad, just because some of us are curious as to what everyone else owns . . . then skip over this thread.

This isn't the boy's locker room where everyone is going to pass a ruler around and judge one another on our size or lack thereof. It's simply a means of saying . . . "Hmmm. I'm interested in picking up gear XY, and I'm wondering who has experience with it ?"

And just because someone owns one preamp doesn't mean their opinions on it aren't valid. What if one of us was interested in it, and no one else we knew of had it except for Randy? :) Then I'm sure your opinion would be quite valued and sought after.

But oh, that's right. Randy's above threads like this one. If you ask me, it seems like you're the one who's taking kind of a snob's attitude about all of this.

Whoa Randy, what's that attitude about? So, you only post about equipment you own or about equipment you haven't used. Big deal. That's what's happening on this thread as well.

That crack about little players with one preamp piping in was just plain bullshit. This is homerecording.com and if you think that an equipment list makes you the grand poopah you are sadly mistaken.

Dude, take your time and read this thread before pumping up your blood pressure. My equipment list was the first on this thread an had a total of 4 items ... and that made you think I consider myself "the grand poopah"? I know there are a lot of folks out there who do not have a lot of gear, just like me, and I'd be happy to learn what they are using. I want to know who own's and uses what gear in order to be able to ask directed questions and am interested to see what gear is actually being used out there. As opposed to you, I don't believe that everyone here's a lying loser who needs to show off with imaginary audio-gear. Actually, I don't think anyone no this BBS is lying at all about their equipment ... there's talks about lots of stuff and quotes of "hear-say" opinions but that's about it. Why should I doubt that those who have listed their gear in this thread are telling? You tell me.

... if you're going to take that attitude I wouldn't piss on you if your head were on fire.

I'm afraid you already started pissing - against the wind ... no offense, but you'd do yourself and others a favor if you took the time to lease read through this thread.

Chess,I am sorry if I came on a bit harsh.Actually I don't mind threads where people compare their equipment, there are threads like that sometimes at vsplanet and other forums. What I took offense to was this thread seemed to be questioning the validity of posters by their equipment list.I can understand that sometimes people post responses on hearsay and that might undermine the validity of their response but usually it is easy enough to seperate the wheat from the chaff in the threads themselves without having a thread of this sort.

I would have no trouble with a share and compare thread and I would participate myself,I just won't list my gear in a thread that has in it's title "to trust or not to trust."For one thing a person with a large budget might have alot of equipment that they don't know shit about.Deep pockets doesn't make a person a rocket scientist.

For another thing a person could just as easily bullshit in this thread as any other,I mean this is the internet after all.I am not saying that anyone streched the truth in this thread, merely that if a person wanted to decieve they could.

I am sorry that I came down so harsh,I am especially sorry to MCR.It is true that I took offense to his wisecrack(and to be honest I still do)but I could have registered my offense in a more mature manner .I'm sorry and I know you did not mean to offend.Mybad.

I still won't post my (modest)gear list in this thread but if someone starts a thread titled something like"Show me yours and I'll show you mine"to compare equipment with no agenda behind it I will gladly list my gear.It isn't going to wow anybody but it is capable of producing decent recordings.Lets remember that this is Homerecording.com and unless you are one of the pros that come here(and I like pro's coming here)we are all pretty much in the same boat going in the same direction. There has been too many cat fights around here lately, the last thing we need is to be divided into the have and have nots.

Chess, about the wadded panties thing,I hate that! They get all stuck in my ass crack.Maybe I should try a thong? :D

Peace All....

MCR,I posted my other response before I saw yours.Once again I'd like to say I'm sorry dude.My bad.And I don't think that people here lie about their equipment, only that you cannot tell by asking them to list their equipment.I think it was the "trust or not trust"in the title of the thread that first got my dander up and then the crack about the "little players"that lit my match.I should have stated my offense in a more adult manner.I guess even with junior high school some 35 years behind me sometimes I react like I'm 12.Sorry man.

Actually, the point is that no one is "comparing." We're just kind of listing off what we have. I think maybe what happened is the thread took a turn somewhere after the first several posts . . . and I suggested we just do a simple "rollcall" where we just ask everyone to post their gear. So I can see where you may have misinterperated things, as the thread really has turned in to something altogether different. We probably should have started a new thread altogether.

And as far as the panties thing goes, I would suggest doing the freeball method. :) I've kind of grown fond of it more out of necessity, as I haven't been doing the laundry as often as I should. :)

hey Randy
I guess the title of the thread is not the most fortunate one as Chess already pointed out. What was going through my brain back then was "Read and see who's got what and you'll know who to trust with their opinion on specific gear ..."

You came on harsh and backed off gently ... no hard feelings on this side. However, now that we're cool, if my head ever got on fire please do not try to prove your friendship .. I'll extinguish myself :)
