Hello..

I know a lot of you are from America, but I was just wondering if any of you have heard of UK Garage?? And if so do you like it??

And..

if you havnt heard it then heres an explaniation and and some examples...tell me what you think!

Basicly its r'nb/hip hop beats and a house tempo (around 130bpm), it can also be 4/4, breakbeaty stuff, a lot of it also contains mcing/ rapping what ever u want to call it!....Here are some examples..

Back Up, Back Up, Back Up by Wookie (underground kinda feel, no vocals, spanish gutiar!)

U need realplayer to hear the tracks.

Please let me know if u think this music is crap or not because it is interesting for me too know what other people thinks of this style of music!

Thanks.

haha!, what are your reasons for not liking it mate?

any one else got any views on it?

Well I personally think it is boring, I would not call that rap or hip-hop, thats all techno. It would not make it in the United States.

Just trying to give an honest opinion

Carter

cheers for the opinions, did u listen to all the tracks?

also, im new to this forum, whats the most popular type of music here?

Techno?? nah.. techno is much much harder than this, with a lot more "bleep bleep" noises! also its a lot faster.

Trust...garage is coming to the USA.....

Yo DJ Strutt

On the real ,I seriouly think UK Garage is phatt. and anybody that has any taste in hip-hop or just upbeat music in general will agree. You also have to respect the negative replys on this because most of us listening to this are at home wearing headphones , but take it to the club we're all gonna be movin our heads and tappin our feets.

p.s. That Brandy and Monica bootleg(remix) was tight.

Is anyone else going to listen at all?

please!, i want to know what u think!

I heard that rewind selecta on Craig David's album and I've been skipping that track ever since. I just can't stand it. It hurts my ears. But then my partner plays it on repeat at his crib so I guess it's a personal taste thing.

There arent enough blips and bleeps:)

Honestly, I dont think that sound will get big in the US. Why? Because its basically packaged as a pop type of sound. We already have enough timbaland wannabe's on the us airwaves. I just dont think theres room for UK timbaland wannabee's. Its just too similar to American R and B.

Personally, Im not big on most r and b or the garage I have heard. I like blips and wild breaks and sprawling ambient tunes. I also like Hip Hop. But thats just me. I mostly listen to old jazz records and that old butta r and b because most "musicians" putting out records have limited knowledge of how to manipulate and organise sound these days(no I'm not an old fart). My opinions definately do not mirror the mainstream,if they did free jazz and IDM would sell by the millions.

If garage did break in the US it would be some wierd mutated strain that strickingly(and disturbingly?) resembled the spice girls, or any other pop phenom. The other way it could break through is if it attracted a rabid cult, wich is unlikely if most garage is as derivative as the examples Ive heard. Most americans are brain dead marks who cant think. if their god the talking box with flashing lights told them often enough to buy uk garage records they would. Currently thats not what american tv's are telling us.

I first heard Garage music in 97 on a trip to London. It's definatly hot. Some people just arent open to things when they first hear it. Trust me, you throw some deep garage on in a club and most of those cats who dissed probably would lose thier minds to the insane rythyms. Also I refer to this music as 2step. Am I wrong or is it the same thing? My girl in Germany just sent me about 6 Cd's full of it. I cant get enough. By the way my first love is hip-hop. But with the state of hip-hop being what it is right now, I would take 2step, house or jungle over it any day!!!

Peace,
Moe

My first experience with Garage was in 97'also. I think it is a chilled out version of "House" music.

I didn't listen to the clips that DjStrutt posted, but I do play a couple of "Garage" cuts in the early parts of my sets, sometimes :). It all depends on where I'm spinning and the crowd.

Sounds like the worst of new RnB (which is horrific) trying, but failing miserably, to be like to worst of electronica (which is also nightmare). I'm embarrassed for us all.:o

But seriously, this stuff is outstanding............... outstandingly embarrassing ;)

I didn't know what type of electronic music I liked until I started picking up Ministry of Sound mags. there are too many damn labels for "techno/house music",but coming from a strong jazz, and hip hop background I found that I love deep house, and garage music. it's the strong grooves, sometimes tribal beats that get me hooked. The biggest turnoff is too many vocals. The best house records made were just vocal phrases that were cut and used like another instrument, when you go singing through the whole song,ad libing and what not,it f*@\s the whole song up.

The songs you put up all had tight music,it was just the (so called rapping) and singing that detracted from the songs.
I don't know about it being as big as it is in the UK ,but there is a small market for it now.

Deep Dish

my 1 1/2 cents ;)

Also, check out some of the artists on the Crydamore and Roulette labels.

BTW... Armand Van Helden also makes hip-hop tracks.

That man is making a SH#TLOAD of money!!!

I talked to him when he came to Chicago last month.

He got paid $34,000 to do a 2 hour set (they paid him in CASH). AND... he charges no less than $150,000 per remix.

Hey spinsterwun last article I read he was making at least $50ka song, but $150k seems unreal for a remix, but if you ever heard the sneaker pimps original song compared to what he did to it $150k still ain't enough. He turns the whole shit out!

2step

maybe you'll fall into it if you listen to
MJ. Cole's track 'cracy love'
