I'm trying to build a setup that will allow me to use a laptop to record vocals and guitar portably. So PCI is out, I have to use USB/firewire.
I don't need to have more than 2 inputs, as I will never be recording more than 2 tracks at a time. I NEED phantom power for recording the vocals. And I'd LIKE the device to be powered by the USB/firewire so that I can record using only the laptop battery for electricity. I'll use whatever software works...Cakewalk OR Protools is fine.
So far I've looked at the digidesign Mbox, the m-audio Duo, and the Aardvark USB3, and only the Mbox meets my requirements (the Duo needs to be plugged in to a wall socket). Are there any other USB/firewire products out there that provide phantom power and at least 2 inputs that people would recommend I take a look at?
