UB802 question..

I think this should be pretty easy for someone to answer. I've got a UB802 mixer that I've been using as my preamp. When I'm setting gain levels I usually set the volume level(white knobs at the bottom) at 12:00, the main mix at zero, and then play with the gain (black knob at top) until I'm just hitting zero. My question is what's the best way to set the levels on my mixer? Is it better to run with high gain and low volume or low volume and high gain?

Everything at unity and use the preamp gain to set the level.

And to make sure, you're looking for 0dBVU - Not -0dBFS.
