GO PACKERS!
I'm about ready to change to the latest version and have a couple concerns.
First I'm using DX and I have to change to VST.
Second,I've read about some users having error messages.

Just wondering if anyone had any input?

I'm really looking forward to giving the Roland tape echo a whirl.

I don't use Cakewalk, but I just started on v4.2 today. Haven't tried the new plug, but no troubles with the old ones

It is working for me with 5.01 and 4.2. I got clicks and pops with 5.0 and 4.0, but the latest revs seem OK.

Then again, I am pure Intel, single-core CPU with only one UAD card. Most of the reports of drama that I have seen seem tied to AMD, multi-cores or multi-cards.

You can always d/l the older software versions from the UAD site.

Ciao,

I installed the V4.1 drivers when I put in my UAD-1 card. This version is VST only, no more DXi. I had a bitch of a time with the Cake VST wrapper and the 4.1 drivers, heaps of UAD errors. So I dl'd V4.0 which does support the DX plugs, and it's all sweet now. This was with GT3, but other UAD Sonar guys are getting the same thing

Stay away from VST and/or V4.0 until the wrapper's fixed

I've got a Single core Pentium processor,Pentium board and Delta card,so it would seem that I'm in the clear.

I really want to try that Space Echo so I'm going to cross my fingers.

Hi BH

I am not sure if it is as cut and dried as that. As I said, I have been using the VST versions happily since v3.9, (other VST adaptor related bugs notwithstanding...).

Other people on the Chris Milne forum also seem to be pointing the finger at newer non-Intel hardware with multiple cards.

So said, v5.0.1 and v4.2 are happy here - no Err=21 or Err=30's since I re-ran the VST configuration wizard and made sure all was happy there. Fast Bounce works where v5.0.0 and v4.0 were giving clicks and pops.

I also seemed to get more stable performance in both 5.0.0 and 5.0.1 when I futzed around with card placement and made sure the soundcard and the UAD were on different, unique IRQs. I also used the PCI latency tool to ensure the UAD and the sound card had the same latency settings and ensured that the latency seting in the UAD control panel matched.

But yep - performance does vary wildly system-on-system or so it seems...

Also,I'm still on Sonar 3,has there been any difference in performance by version?

I like it, but I haven't parted with $USD249 just yet!!

...also - do checkout the Chris Milne forum as it has a wealth of info on this error and other config/troubleshooting info.

Dunno about v3 - I am using v4 and v5PE. v4.0.0 up to the last update seem to perform differently with the audio engine. When v4.0.2 (or was it 4.0.3), introduced the 'gapless' audio engine, some of the UAD things started showing up.

v4.0.3 and the v5.x.x code always seemed to have similar behaviour.

v3 is more like v4, but doesn't have the VST adaptor updates, does it? In that case, I have no real clue...

Well,my second card should be here this weekend, and it's a flexi pak.I've already got a studio pak,so if things don't work out,I'll either have limited choices or I'll have to hang on to my voucher until the problems are solved.

I've had no problems up till now other than running out of CPU.

Hah! That is so spooky...

...I placed an order for the same flexi-pack today!

Now, let's all join hands and sing "It's a Small World, (After All)".

:D Q.

Yeah the FlexiPak's a great deal.
I've bought the LA2A, Pultec Pro and Plate140 plugs so I've got about $125 of the voucher left, not sure what to get yet. Don't know if the 1176 will give me any more than the LA2A.

As far as the UAD errors go with the VST plugs, the bottom line is if you have trouble you can revert to the V3.9 drivers which appear stable.

Edit: should have said I've a P4 2.8C on an Asus mobo, intel 865 chipset

Gotta say - I am LOVING the 1176LN - that and the Precision Limiter (although I tend to abuse it - like most new toys).

LA2A rocks!
Two knobs and always sounds good!

So nobody has a take on the Roland/boss stuff?

If I have time I'll give it a test drive this weekend.

Go to town with your new card Qwerty.

OK - here's one weird thing with v4.2 and v5.0.1 that I can't explain...

If I set my FF800 to a latency of 1.1msec using ASIO (64 samples), I can easily run any combination of tracks plus one instance of any UAD plugin. If I add another, I get clicks and pops until I turn the latency down to about 5.8msec.

The CPU hardly changed in Sonar @ 1.1msec, 1.5msec, 2.5 and 5.8msec. Just seems that I can't reliably go lower than 5.8msec latency with more than one UAD plugin being used.

No big deal, but does lend weight to some of the arguments on the Cakewalk forum and the Chris Milne forums where they talk about some weird incompatibility between the PDC mechanisms used by Sonar and the UAD drivers. I am hoping that v5.0.2 includes some stuff to address these issues.

I just installed my second card.Registered it and so far everything seems fine.

I checked out my effects through a VSTI at 2.9ms latency, but with no tracks recorded.

I'll test it further after supper!

One thing that works only sporadically in GT3 with a UAD plug on is looping.

Sometimes when looping a clip with a UAD plug on that track, the plug will turn off after the first pass through the loop. Other times it works OK...

Well I got everything to work okay, until I closed then reopened my test project. Then I got a "plug in failed to load, buffer mismatch error".The plugins all seem loaded, but the CPU hit is doubled!

I will have to investigate this further, but there always has seemed to be a bit of black magic concerning what cobinations of effects and what kind of routeing tyou can use.

I knew about the looping errors, but that has never been an issue for me.

The plate and CE-1 are very nice and I plan on severely abusing the 201 once things get smoothed out.

Picked up this quote from that UAD forum thread, from one of the UAD support people:

"We are working closely with Cakewalk to resolve these issues. There has not been any changes in version 4.2 that would address these issues. Cakewalk should be looking at this issue in the near future. "
