Just got the latest version of the UAD-1 software 3.5 and have been playing with the Pultec Pro EQ. Do yourself a favor and get it. Precision midrange control from 200 to 2000Hz, it provdes detailed control right in the midrange sweetspot and, provides excellent results for carving the main vocal into the mix.

Thought I would share.

Sounds enticing.

I've been seeing grief over some boards concerning the UAD and S3. Have you had any trials and tribulations?

Was the 3.5 an upgrade for you or a new purchase?

Q.

Have not had one hiccup with the product since I purchased it. I run on an Intel machine.

It is the best value in homerecording par none. I would even say it has had the most dramatic effect on my recordings to date.

You can take a book like "Behind the Glass" and follow the advice of many pro engineers putting Pultecs and LA2A devices onto your tracks and have instant gratification.

Do they sound exactly like the originals, no, but they are darn close.

3.5 is a free upgrade for all users. The Pultec Pro was an additional $79. Also, they have just lowered the price of entry to around $350 estimated street however, they took some of the plug ins out of the package to get it this low. They did this for the people who bought the fuller version and want a 2nd card but don't need the software plugs again.

The thing I hate most about the UAD-1 card is that it seems almost all of its owners are super happy about having bought it and can't stop praising it.
This means that even though I can't afford it and my talent does'nt merit it,I will probably go buy one of these things anyway.

Well, I guess we all ask ourselves after doing this awhile, "How do I get that pro sound"? Other than talent, which of course counts, the home studio needs as many short cuts at a reasonable cost as can be discovered.

This product and the Powercore really bring a pro sound into the hands of the rest of us.

Thanks for this info, MM. I will check it out, and like acidrock, convince myself that I desperately need one too...

How would you compare against the Waves stuff, if you have had the chance to play with them?

:) Q.

I have not compared the waves stuff to UAD 1 but there are plenty of people here ( http://www.chrismilne.com/uadforums/default.asp ) that have.

The consensus of many is that they stopped using the waves stuff once they had the UAD-1. Except for the L2 for mastering.

The ultimate setup is 2 UAD-1s to cover 24-36 tracks and a Powercore for its delays and reverb. Both the UAD-1 and the Powercore have dropped below $500.

the Sony Dynamics plug is suppsoed to be the shit too....and supposedly the oxford sounds better then the cambridge...but the sony stuff is an expensive 3rd party option for the powercore

Just checked Australian RRP - $AUD1,699 for the Studio Pack.

This is the equivalent of $1290 odd US on today's exchange rate. F@*k I hate the music industry.....

And you reckon you have seen it for $US500....

Ouch!

:( Q.

maybe on ebay for 500 but we were referring to the project pak for 500, it comes with less plug-ins

Actually, the project pack is selling for $400.

I just got the Mackie version of this card at my local GC (they had some left over), which gave me licenses to the LA2A, which isn't available in the project pack. Do you guys know whether, if I get the project pack in addition to my Mackie UAD-1, I'll still be able to run my LA2A on the new card, or will the system have to segregate which plugs run on which cards? I suspect not, but I'm not sure.

Once the new card is authorized you will be good to go on the plug ins.
