Why does it always seem to turn out this way?

OP: "HOW U DO SOUND MAGIC?!"

Experienced Mastering Engineer(s): "There's nothing magic about mastering. *insert great advice here*"

Inexperienced Wankers: "JUST TURN UP THE MULTABAND COMPRESSES AND IZOTOPE OZONE LIMITING EQ VERB. MAKE SURE U HAVE A SUB!"

OP: "THANKS Inexperienced Wankers, IMMA DO THAT!"

Experienced Mastering Engineer(s): *Facepalm*

Because too many people think that they can clown fuck their way to the top.

The rest of the world is fake-it-'til-you-make-it so what makes mastering any different?

Cheers

Because this:

Inexperienced Wankers: "JUST TURN UP THE MULTABAND COMPRESSES AND IZOTOPE OZONE LIMITING EQ VERB. MAKE SURE U HAVE A SUB!"

Sounds like it's a much easier step by step collection of advice to follow than this:

Experienced Mastering Engineer(s): "There's nothing magic about mastering. *insert great advice here*"

Which usually implies concepts like "years of experience" and "takes a lot of effort" and "isn't something you can just do without knowledge and study".

However...there's a fine line between being helpful and being a jerk. Something that (sometimes) this forum struggles with.

Well, if mastering was as easy as mixing, mixing engineers wouldn't send their mixes off to someone else for mastering. Right?

Err, I think it's more that Mastering requires a different skill set. Otherwise, why would anyone use Mixing engineers if Mastering engineers had the same skills and were better at it?

I don't see the issue here. Someone who has years of experience at something is qualified to say whether or not it takes years of experience. Those who say you can do something with the push of a button that others have spent years acquiring the skills to do are somewhat less credible.

Wait... I think I may have mis-interpreted your original post, 'cause I agree completely with this one. Were you being sarcastic before?

Dammit, would someone tell me what preset to use for reverb during mastering already ?
