Type 1 cassettes in a portastudio...

I'm about to pick up a used Tascam Porta 02, and I'm just wondering if it would be a big deal to use Type 1 cassettes in it. I'm really only intending on using the machine for a scratch pad, more or less. I'm kind of leaning toward a lo-fi sound, and although I realize that Type II cassettes are recommended for portastudios, is there any real harm in using Type 1? I mean, would they actually damage the machine at all? Or will they even work?

They'll work, they'll not damage the machine. I'd still go with chrome though. But that's coz I'm approaching middle age.
