I just purchased a M Audio 410 to do my acoustic recording on. I noticed I have to turn the gain pretty high to hear the music. It may be a software problem or something I'm not doing right because I am new at recording. I found a M Audio Pre amp at a good price, would it benefit me to run my mic into that first and then the 410. That would also boost the gain. The 410 has mic preamps so I might be duplicating things. What do you think! Jeff

It may add some noise but, if you need the gain, give it a shot.

You could always just bypass the pres in the 410 and just use the other pre.

You shouldn't need to use more than 1 preamp.

What sort of mic have you got?
