two phantom power questions

My Tascam digital recorder and my mic preamp both have phantom power switches to use with condensor mics.

1. Do I hit the one on the preamp, the one on the Tascam, or both?

2. Does it make a difference whether I'm using a line or mic input?

Thanks!

Use the phantom power on the box you actually plug the mic into. It should only appear on the mic (XLR) input.

Thanks! That was my first guess, but I didn't want to fry anything by experimenting.

+1.

The preamp output and recorder input will usually be TRS or TS connectors. Phantom power wont be available on TRS/TS inputs.
If your preamp happens to use XLR for line-level out, use an XLR female to TRS male to go between preamp and interface.
