I don't use a computer. I mix with an ADAT and a mixer. I use my mixer for front end and actual mixing. Would it be very strange to have a small mixer for the front end and then a slightly larger one for mixing? instead of one really big mixer? is that common at all? maybe this is a dumb question.

Sure it would work, and for mixers that don't have tape returns it might save some patching. Is there another reason you wanted to do this?

I have a (slightly) smaller 16 channel mixer I use for mobile tracking (and mixing if need be) and have a larger 20 channel board that is primarily for mixing. I track with it to, when I'm in the room its installed in.

So, yeah. If there's a reason to do it that way it certainly works. Just more of a hassle to unhook/hook up everything if you're moving things around freqeuntly.

I used to have a seperate mixer for effects. So I could run series, or parallel effects.
