if i have "per project folder" checked and audio sent to the (second) "audio" hard drive, should i also have project folder also directed to the "audio drive" or keep it on the 1st (programs) harddrive.
or what is the best way to utilize two harddrives.

Also both harddrives have 8 mb of cache(sp?) memory isthere some way to utilize this feature

For the audio folder.. I would set up audio data and store your projects on the second HDD. I can't remember the exact tags (at work). I usually keep the 'picture data' on the OS drive and I have a little batch program which goes in and deletes it when I click on it.. or if you want it to do it evertime you start windows, just pop it in the start-up folder.

I believe the 8MB Cache is basically a buffer for your HDD when it writes, ie if you are throwing so much data at it and it can't keep up, it keeps that data in Cache until it can write it... or something like that.

Why's that? I keep my Picture Data "as long as possible" (have PicCache = 300 in aud.ini). It really speeds up the project loading time. :)

True,

but chews up HDD space :D On my OS drive I only have 3GB free so I try and keep it as clean as possible.

Deleting the files defeats the purpose of having a cache in the first place. If the waveforms aren't saved, then they need to be redrawn by Sonar which takes time. The point of the picture cache is to reduce the time need to create the waveforms by having them stored on disk.

Rather than deleting them, you would be just as well served as setting the cache as low as possible. If you set it to 10 meg in your aud.ini file for ex., that's all the HD space that will be used.

You are correct, though, in keeping it on a different drive than your wave files. However, even with 3 gig, you should be able to spare 50 meg or so for a cache, no??

My point exactly! :)

And 300 MB is not much these days. I mean I have a 40 GB harddrive just for audio. I think I can spare 300 MB on my OS drive... ;)
