dual processors are the way to go. every now and then when im tracking vocals and i get that vocalist who needs 20 to 30 takes for one verse. while im waiting for them to get sh*t together,i like the luxury of being able to browse the net, play a game, or burn a cd with out disrupting any of my open audio applications. dual processors really doesn't make anything run faster, i just gives you more power to run more things. your 2100 would be your corvette. your 1800 dual would be your expedition. the number of passengers would be your tracks or applications.

u could just get the dual motherboard with one "2000" and install another one at a later date when get more funds. i seen a combo for $430 at pricewatch.

just my two cents.

correct me if I´m wrong, but shouldn´t I be able to playback a lot of tracks with effects with the 2100?? Aprox how many tracks with effects could I have running at the same time with a 2100 and with a dual 1800?

That question has no answer. Just considering the processor is a mistake that a lot of people make. There are so many things that can go wrong...or right.

I do projects that are 24 tracks of 24bit, 44.1khz audio with maybe as many as a dozen high quality DX effects (depending on the effects of course)....like Waves TrueVerb & C1 & L1 and so on. The processor I'm using is a measly 850Mhz Celeron.

Let's just say that you *should* be able to do a LOT, even with a single 1800 processor. You will be able to do more with dual processors, technically, but you need to ask yourself whether you need to do more.

BTW, upgrading from a single processor to a dual processor HAL typically requires that you reinstall Windows....although there are tricky ways around that. (that is, if you were to get a single processor and upgrade to dualies later)

From what you´ve told me I think I´ll get the 2100 and work for a few months, if I need more power I´ll upgrade. Another thing...which mobo do you recomend for AMD and a delta 1010 ?

Well, I have run both a Tyan, and a IWILL, and both worked great.

I am not really experienced with dual CPUs, but I think (as already said) two 1.8G processor are gonna be much more powerfull than one 2.2G ... imagine, if maximun speed of dual CPUs is about 50% more, the two 1.8G CPUs are gonna give you minimum 2.9G speed ! WOW. But you should be very picky about the motherboard, memory type (and brand) and the integration between them and the CPU/s. Bad integration between the whole system part can reduce much (!) of the potential performence.
