I am trying to connect two turntables and a mixer to my computer through the line in jack. I have sound blaster live but I can't get any sound out. Nothing comes through the computer speakers. I checked windows mixer to make sure it isn't muted and I checked the sound blaster mixer. I don't know whats wrong?

Are you trying to connect the turntables directly? I'm pretty sure you need to go through a receiver to get the signal strength to line level. I did this awhile back and my memory of it is diminishing, but I believe you need to connect the turntable to your receiver and then use the aux out jacks on the receiver to go to your soundcard (line in).

Also, I'm not sure if you can go directly to your computer speakers. I was trying to record vinyl albums and it worked fine. You may have to record to .wav or .mp3 files first. If you don't have a recording program, try using windows Sound Recorder as a test. Go to Edit -> Audio Properties and make sure the record settings are set to your sound card's Wave In.

Lastly, what is your setup? Your receiver will have two RCA jacks, while the input to your soundcard is probably 1/8" stereo. You need a Y connector to do this (two RCA females to one 1/8" male stereo).

I have rca's from the line out on the mixer, then I used y-adapters to split it, one going to an amp and speakers and the other to my sound cards input. I can't just go from my mixer to my soundcard. All a reciever will do is give me a way to hook up more speakers won't it.

What's up barkerw.

Try this...

dj mixer Out to computer LINE IN (not MIC IN).

If you then can't get sound out of your computer speakers then check

START/PROGARMS/ACCESORIES/MULTIMEDIA/VOLUME CONTROL/OPTIONS/PROPERTIES/RECORDING

Enable all of you controls.

Make sure your LINE IN or AUX IN is not muted also observe your MIXED OUTPUT.

What program are you recording into?

Are you making a "mix tape or CD"?

If so, are you doing it straight through or are you editing it?

Download Sound Forge Demo from...

If you are making an edite mixtape/CD then download the demo versions of

Vegas Audio 2.0

ProTools for PC

Cakewalk 9

I hope this helps you. :D

Peace...

SPIN

P.S. How many OUTS do you have on your DJ mixer?

If you only have (1) set of OUTPUTS, then you might not want to split the signal.

Go OUT of dj mixer IN to computer. OUT of Computer IN to stereo system.
