So I have an old record player that I was thinking of playing around with. I'm wondering if any old record player works for scratching stuff, or if I need one with any particular features. I couldn't find a really relevant place to post this, but hopefully someone can answer my question anyways. Thanks.

doubtful.

You need something with a high torque motor and a highly balanced tone arm. Belt drive with no anti-skate won't work very well.

you need direct drive, Buy an sl1200 mk II or III that will cover your needs fine. + you need a cartridge that would be eliptical for scratching so it does not go too deep in the groove.
