well you guessed it, I am ready to make a REAL mixing room. I record my drums in the garage with long mic chords and record the guitars using the Line 6 POD (for now until I get a decent amp). So this room is for mixing and mastering. I need a great sounding room for only that. I have a lot of acoustic foam to put up on walls. Where should EVERYTHING go? Of course I have been reading up on this whole thing, but it's hard to make decisions when my unique room comes into play. Heres my room below; window, door, and closet. Where would you guys place the computer/mixer desk, monitors, and foam panels? The room is 11.5 Feet x 10.5 Feet. Need opinions here.
Thanks,
Rob

You would probably want to set up the mixing station in front of the window. Put foam on the sides and above the mixing station. Put some in the corners for bass traps and along the back wall.

exactly

I was thinking the same thing, puting the desk at the window. But do I have to cover the whole place with the foam? I was thinking about the back wall, behind me while sitting at the desk. Is that good?
Thanks,
Rob

Unlike isolation, (where any weak spot in your coverage substantially circumvents your isolation), absorbtion and diffusion are things you add until you have solved the problem, and then no more. While your room can't have too much isolation, it can have too much absorbtion.

Bass Traps in the corners of course, including the ceiling corners.

Then since you aren't talking about building out separate walls (and thus are talking about parallel walls) I would look seriously at adding diffusion to the back wall and at least one of the side walls, also the ceiling if the floor is hard.

If the room seems live then add absorbtion (which is what your foam gets you) until the room seems dead enough.

So, at least in my opinion, foam is your final, not first, consideration.

Do it just like this!:
Only, where it says "curtians" continue the slot resonators just like the other side. (Since you don't have a window there.)
