IDK, I never had real drums! Per the guitarcenter.com ad for steven slate vsti:

"In the mixer section [default screen] you can see the most used/obvious parameters such as tuning, fine tuning, overall level and independent levels/panning for direct and room sounds. Note that the tuning feature actually sounds like you're naturally tuning the drum head and not pitching up or down on a sample!"

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Are ALL these people wrong?

Why does it seem like everyone on this forum always argues and contends with each other? I'd say at least half the people on here just try to prove someone wrong instead of trying to help, when a lot of the time those people aren't even slightly qualified to be throwing around their ignorant opinions. Open-mindedness is an amazingly powerful mental attribute, ESPECIALLY when creating music. Give it a shot o.O

Ok calm down, man, geez... They're not ALL wrong at your link cuz they're not even all in agreement, so SOME of them must be right.

Anyway, a 1 minute google search indicates you can definitely tune Steven Slate vsti drums, before it's even rendered as audio.. Whether that means you can change the pitch, fuggifiknow.. ask the drum forum, you'll get a slightly more qualified less ignorant opinion..

Heck Mark, I've just read that thread and it reflects most of the opinions (both informed and ignorant) that have been expressed here.

Folks on this thread have thought about your question, gone and listened to your music on MySpace, not given you a real hard time about anything or ever flat out said you're doing anything dumb, nobody has denied that drummers 'tune' drums (though they've tried to clarify what that involves) and folks have even gone on the net and looked up the exact information you want without the slightest hint that you could have got off your ass and done a basic web search yourself before asking the community to pitch in.

Please try and forgive us for falling short of your expectations.

My bad guys I got a little frustrated there. I've been reading for HOURS today trying to find information on stuff like dithering, drum tuning, normalizing, and bit rates and it seems that all I can find is arguing and people trying to 1 up the last person. I've been trying to get re-setup on a new computer and updating my system and its been very frustrating finding the information I'm looking for. Suprstar and robdean, you are both right. TGIF!

I feel very comfortable with the process of EQ, compression timing, dynamics, and mixing. My main question is whether you can tune the steven slate drums, primarily the kick.

Yes you can....just dial the tuning knob each kit component has.

Eh? I see no 'Witchhunt'! I think I heard 'Bitch', 'the Zero chain 2009' and maybe another. They sounded good to me, but I wouldn't want to fall out with you over it...

Oh them, yeah, they sounded better......thanx!:drunk::)

Mark - did you get these drums yet?

Let us know how you get on with them...

No not yet. My OS crashed :( I just bought a new external hard drive so i can save my data and reinstall my OS. I actually upgraded from vista to 7. Im going to be doing that this weekend, but I'm actually ordering the e-mu 0404 (white) and steven slate drums tonight :). I will update when I get everything running.

Jeez what a PITA. Sympathy!

Have as good a w/e as you can - I hope Win7 is OK - I have an official upgrade disc but haven't felt masochistic enough to try it out yet...

So I installed windows 7 and it is AMAZING. I have yet to install reaper or my interface (hasnt arrived yet) but everything else has worked flawlessly and very efficient. MUCH better than Vista. I will update again when I get Reaper, SSD and my interface all working.

That's very encouraging - maybe I'll try my Win7 disc on my Vista machine, once I've soaked my darn Virus ridden XP netbook in disinfectant. It's running off a Linux bootdisc just now to try and scrub the Evil out of it...:(

I use SSD drums on Cubase. I mainly use the kick and snare, the rest are fine on my SC-8850 module. The cymbals on all of them are poor. Everything is tunable and very tweakable. Stock the kicks have way too much "click" for my ears as has pretty much every kick sample I've ever heard. There's never enough "brown" sound. Digital strikes again.

Something I noticed since I got my first drum sample player (Sequential Circuits Drumtraks in '83) is that when you change the pitch of a sample to higher than it was recorded the harmonics go into the "Munchkins" and sound bizarre.

When you change the pitch of a sample to lower than it was recorded it doesn't happen. But when I make the pitch higher on a sample, be it drum or whatever, it almost always brings in artifacts I don't like.

So pretty much always I lower the pitch on many samples or leave it alone.

Yikes! I feel your pain though I've spent hours and hours trying to get my system going. As far as I can tell its been well worth it though. Nice verbage though :) I bet you could pump out some pretty creative lyrics! Good luck :)
