Tryout Audacity

I came across a free audio editor called Audacity. I've not seen anybody mention it in these forums maybe because a lot of people have editors that they paid big bucks for. Audacity will not compare to these $200 editors but it does accept VST plugins and I've used it now for approx. 3 weeks. For something that costs absolutely nothing it does a great job. I like Goldwave but it does not accept any plugins and its reverb sucks. If you haven't already and, like me, you have to budjet your money try it out. I came across it at hitsquad.

I've been using Audacity 1.0 for the last couple weeks now, and with the exception of an odd bug when I close the program (no loss of data or files), it does a nice job of recording. I'm just recording church sermons in dual mono and I can't tell the difference in the recordings between those made with Audacity, Cool Edit Pro 2.0 or Sound Forge 6.0. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the expensive professional grade editors, but it's fast and free. I'm very interested to know if anyone has been able to record at 24-bit/96kHz sampling with Audacity 1.0, and with what audio interface.

I've tried the beta Audacity 1.1 and it looks very promising. I think the authors are on to something with the next release. Let's just hope there's enough interest out there to keep them motivated to take Audacity to another level.

Audacity is also one of the few editors that are available for Linux.

Is Audacity a Multitrack editor, or just stereo 2 track?
