trying to trigger sounds with the DR008, a PMA5 and a VS890

My setup consisits of a Roland VS890, Roland PMA-5, Cakewalk HS2004, FX Expansion DR008 and Toontrack's Drumkit From Hell Multiversion.

What I'm trying to do is use the VS for the master MIDI sync source so it can playback the PMA5's patterns, songs and what not. I then want the MIDI out from the PMA5 to trigger the DFH sounds (like a midi keyboard) that I'm running using the DR008 through the DXI synth rack in Cakewalk.

The PMA5 is triggering the DFH sounds and the VS is sync'd with the PMA5...no problems at all. The problem is that when the PMA5 triggers the DFH sounds, there is a delay. What ends up happening is the DFH drums trigger out of tempo and completely out of sync.

Is my computer too slow to do what I'm trying, or are there settings within Cakewalk, DR008 or the PMA5 that would improve the performance? The DR008 is my first experience with soft synths so I don't really know what to look for.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appriciated. I 've been working at this for a couple days now and just want to get back to playing some music!

Is the delay predictable? If so, Cakewalk should let you compensate for latency issues by slipping the tracks by a certain amount.

A tracking pass with the monitors off, a quick track slip and you're back in the music biz rather than the computer biz.

As you're probably not going to want to use this solution forever I suggest either making the computer your main clock / recording device at some point in the near future or going fully hardware based by adding a hardware sequencer / sampler to your Roland multitrack. I use a Yamaha AW16g teamed with an AKAI MPC1000 and it works flawlessly.
