Another Synth Piece a la Stawl via an aging Roland SC-88.

I ran it thru some more severe EQ than I usually do in an attempt to leave the large bass transients in place but not all washed out.

Comments on how I did are requested.

It never ... really ... bothers me.

It's kind of like a recent post 'Wabi Sabi' ... but a very manic approach, like a cross between Einstein and a 1 year old jumping up and down on the keyboard.

And I like it.

The bass if fine. I'm on headphones ... the doctor will be in shortly, please don't leave the building.

:D

Bass is fine Doc......................

but I still don't get it..........

I'm listening through cans as well. I like the tune, but it seems a bit thin somehow - your stuff usually has more body, I think.

I've been listening to a lot of Mozart tonight and last night. This one of your's really nice afterward. There's stuff in here I haven't heard from you before, something you really want to get said.

Ditch the Roland LOL. Get it said with another synth.

I like this one - it's really good.

Worked pretty good. Some big bass notes without rumbling my headphones.

I think this is my favourite one so far. Parts of it were like listening to a scrambled melody, so I ended up hearing an unsrambed version in my head.

Long song.

I know what you mean about the "thin" deal. But I didn't want a non-stop saturated bass region, just a few rumbling loud bass transients that came across clean.

No scrambling here! This was highly organized! I have a few experiments left to perform...

Thanks for getting me the feedback on the low end.

Here's the experimental result:

I took the MIDI reversed half of this piece and then audio reversed *that*, then lined the two up together in Vegas panned pretty hard left and right and created this.

Yeah, nice, nice, nice song (s143d-128). You're doing new stuff here - new chops, new voices. But it sounds to me like the EQ needs some attention - not the low end, but the high end. Some of the sounds come through my cans a bit shrill, and sounding like they were recording at 16/44.1. I like the direction you're trying to take the sound, but it's like the lights are a bit too bright or something... dunno...whatcha think? Is it just me not used to this yet? Places like: 0.13 and 0.58 and 1.22 and 2.10.

Gee, *nice song*. Good to have you back. :)

The experiment was all about the timing differences that would appear when reversing an audio file vs. reversing a MIDI file.

:)

Recording sounds good from here (at least on good headphones)

Always like the swells that happen with backward stuff

"Is this real version still too bright?"

Nope. Just right. I like it too - it was a real good idea to try that backwards effect on your stuff - it works really well. But how come the new backwards version is shorter?

If you study the long version you will find that it is two sections of the same thing lined up end to end with one reversed. The short one took the MIDI reversed half reversed once more in audio (to give that swelling effect) and put into one channel while the other channel got the unreversed MIDI track. I then slid them around until they lined up best.

Half length.

Hi: Haven't read past your original post, so forgive me if I miss something.

According to the dimensions of my monitoring room, I have prominent standing bass waves at exactly 63.3 Hz and 70Hz, as well as @125Hz...lol. It's like the room was built as some kind of a sonic conspiracy preventing me from being able to monitor the low end of songs. I did catch some low mid stuff that was kinda' hitting hard, but it was transient, and I honestly cannot state whether it's really there or just amplified by my room.

By the way, I'm home today, and my 3 year old loves the "peeyan-O," and he very forcibly demanded that I turn this up; I think he's gonna' be a jazz player, lmao :D :D

Have a good one.

Hey Drstral -- I dig your stuff, man! Okay, listening now with headphones. This is kind of a head-trip anyway...

Very experimental, but if you listen close there is that melodic/chromatic (I'm not sure what the exact term is) running through the entire piece that kind of gives it a hypnotic quality. I like your use of different patches. They all complement each other well.

One very minor nitpik, and this may just be because I'm wearing headphones, may be I would like to hear a bit more separation/panning. They all seem to be panned very close to the center and maybe just a bit of panning or opening up a tad might make give it the "big" feel that it deserves.

Very inventive overall. I like it!

:D
