Trying to mix my band's first EP.

No, don't duplicate and pan, that would not sound so good. Better to retrack with a 2nd guitar part. I thought you might have been using an acoustic. I think it would fit well with this song, so you could try that. Acoustic panned one side, electric the other.

For the low end, I suggest working with the EQ to get the kick and bass working better together. Solo those two instruments and work with them.

I agree with Chili. Double track the guitar and spread them. (Never duplicate) You'll have more space in the centre for the bass and bass drum to breathe. I personally think the bass could do with more definition, tweak of the tone and some compression. It sometimes hides in the tone of the guitar in the mids. I'm a bassist though so I am biased.....I like my bass front, centre and clear.

I know what you mean about the bass. I don't know how to describe the sound I want but it definitely isn't as upfront as I'd like it. Definitely needs more presence. I might change up the eq and add just a little saturation to help it cut through. Thanks for the help!
 
I liked the song. I like your singing voice.

There is a general boxiness to the mix. I'm hearing on most of the tracks (but not the drums). The main rhythm guitar is pretty boxy. The vocal is as well, but to a lesser extent.

The vocal is noticably dryer than the backing tracks. I almost never say this, but I'd apply a little reverb to it. Maybe just a hint of an ambiance or small room reverb.

I like the drums and bass sounds.

The vocal gets covered up in spots. It's usually getting covered by the guitar and it's in the louder sections.

Little nits. But I still liked the song.
 
Thanks for pointing that out M. I haven't really noticed it. Boxy meaning too much stuff in the 200-400hz area? I can clean that up a little. I thought the guitar sounded really thin without it. But again it's probably my lack of quality monitors. I'll upload a new version to that same link when I get off work and get a chance to work on it. And I know what you mean about the vocal not really sitting well with the mix. It doesn't sound blended very well. I think we're going to record an acoustic track like some of the other guys suggested and get those out of the center of the stereo field. Then if the vocal still sounds out of place I'll try to add some reverb.
 
I think the range I'm talking about is a little higher than that. Maybe 800hz to 1200hz or so.
