why you guyz making fun of my name? I'm a girl and I love bunnies.... enough said! ;) i think i'll go for the mackie. A1MixMan, that was a great article. thanks for the link. my only question now is... how do I do stereo micing of guitar through the mackie? two xlr's in, pan one right and pan one left? and record onto ONE track on my multitrack?... ah the questions are never-ending... i'm sure i'll figure it out, but if you have any quick pointers.. i'd appreciate them... this thread threatens to wobble all over the place and I"m still hoping for someone to attempt to describe...
TRANSPARENCY and WARMTH.... thanks all!!

*who let you out of the cage??? GET BACK IN THERE! BAD RABBIT*

I think of transparency in regards to an audio preamp as the ability to bring mic level to line level without altering the sound. What you get on tape is pretty much what you hear as you record it.If a unit colors the sound that means to me it is adding something or changing the signal in some way. Some people prefer a "colored"preamp(although with cheap preamps warmth is often confused with mud,IMO).I like a preamp that adds next to nothing to the sound,of course that might be because I cant afford any QUALITY preamps that color the sound. As far as stereo miccing, you would run two signals from your mixer to two channels on your multitrack(or a stereo channel).

stereo mic

One Mic to one mixer channel, the other mic to a different mixer channel. Pan one all the way left, the other all the way right. Connect mixer out (stereo) to audio card in (stereo) - set your rec sw to record a stereo signal
